The new stuff from Teenage Engineering! A little pricey, a little outlandish, but cool nonetheless

the UAD Apollo looks pretty righteous, would like to test it and see more reviews before really deciding if it offers something more than just the plugin compatibility that the UAD satellites offer. Mainly i am interested in the quality of AD/DA conversion. But the claims of low latency of plugin use during tracking is interesting, i am wondering how well that compares to maxed out TDM chassis from Magma available now.

I'm liking the look of the new Roland TD30 KV and UA Apollo interface!

The Mackie and Line 6 digital mixers also look interesting and am wondering how these would compare to the Presonus Studiolive and Yamaha 01v96 mixers!?

Anything that hints that thunderbolt is on the way in.
I was disappointed with the td-30 however. Nice kit but sounds are below par

Assuming it really sounds like the 2192, this thing is ridiculously on point on every feature.

I'm hoping they also offer a pro version without mic pres and the ability to link several units.

+1. I would assume if this unit takes off they might offer a two rack space version with different options- I need 24 ins and outs and I don't need more preamps. Love the look and concept of the Apollo though.

when you see that many 'features' in a single rack space they had to cut corners somewhere. Plus the word 'interface' just smells 'prosumer'
if it sounds like a 2192 that would be cool though, but doubtful

the mic pres are 100% bypass able as there are 8 line ins on trs. Channels 1-4 are either the uad channels or line, user selectable. That thing looks awesome. I'd even be happy if the conversion was that of the 4-710d. Fingers crossed.

If this was anything like a 2192 it would require a ton more space. Not saying it's a bad converter but it's not going to respond when pushed hard like a 2192 and just because it says UA on the font, don't assume it's anything similar. The 2192 barely fit a a 1RU chassis as is. FYI, Rich Williams designed the 2192 who now is Burl audio. I'm sure the only reason UA stop manufacturing the 2192 was due to respect for Rich and/or a non-compete clause in a contract.

I wouldn't count on that.
The Apollo is the same size and prize of the UA2192 (which was already sold at loss), and what make the 2192 a great converter is the analog path : class A and transformers. You don't miniaturize or cheapen those things, and most important : Rich Williams (who designed the 2192) is now Burl. That's where the sound is.

I do not believe the 2192 had transformers. Otherwise I tend to agree with everything you said!

Best,
Chris

As far as I know the 2192 is transformerless.

UAD business is selling overpriced plugins, I guess they can afford to make premium hardware and sell it for cheap as long as it goes viral. Im sure Apollo will sell like crazy and also sell a lot of plugins.

Or maybe the ADDA is just cheap.

If the quality was up to par with metric halo I would gladly pay 6K for an Apollo.

I don't see how it is expensive. It is almost like getting the quad system for and plugs for free isn't it?
