Neyrinck V-Control 1.5

The new version of V-Control Pro has just been released and it is brilliant! The addition of window sharing in the app has really elevated it to a new level of DAW control. From metering, plugin touch control and my software mixer control (Focusrite, Motu Cuemix etc), it opens so many doors to ways to use your iPad to control your software. Just got it up and running, some pics below... Im excited!

Cool! Will hopefully have time to give it a run for its money later today (unless all the news don't get the better of me ). Praying for snappy window sharing for GREAT plugin control. If it does that it will absolutely KILL.

I've certainly fou d the plugin v window to be at its best when using Logic, with the purple link chain active. The v window is automatically updated as channel strips are changed etc.

This is quite an amazing piece of kit and will obviously grow as people use and respond to Mr Neyrinck and provide feedback etc.

More info please... this works with third party plugins as well as DAW-included ones?? What about the ones with small GUI controls, how does that work out ergonomically?

Anyone using this with Ableton Live? Its very intriguing...

Is it possible to change the track you're on when in V-Window mode?

The V-Window mode gives you access to any window, of application on the computer, which means pretty much anything within those windows is fair game. Although adjusting the interface of a plug-in is a great use for this, the feature is useful for pretty much anything you need to adjust while not sitting at the computer.

Anyone wishing to learn more about this feature, and V-Control 1.5 in general, can download the .pdf user's manual at this link:

http://www.neyrinck.com/download/V-C...rs%20Guide.pdf

All the details of V-Window are on pages 11-13. Additionally, pages 59-71 have lots of helpful info on how V-Control works specifically, with the six new compatible DAWs that were added, to go along with the original three that have been available since version 1.2

Thanks!

OK, since we finally got an iPad I decided to download the 'free' version of V-Control 1.5. However, I really can't tell how well this will work. I'm not saying you need to beef up the free version, but you should really give us more info on how this works with the various DAW's. In the manual there is VERY little info on how well this works with Reaper. Even using the free version with PT, I can't really tell how this all works.

In the free version, in addition to not being able to edit in the 'V-Window' (which is 100% understandable), the actual control surface interface looks quite different.

For example, using PT, I see no way to select various automation modes or anything. All I see for each channel is a fader, pan, mute and solo. Are the additional features ONLY found in the Pro Version? And if so, how many of those features are available in Reaper? I mean...., can I change automation modes in Reaper? What about all the various buttons I see on the site and in the youtube video that are on the right hand side of the screen?

In the free version, all I see is a button for the App Store. Are those buttons customizable in their function? What functions are available for Reaper?

Sorry to be a pain...., is there a more full featured manual that outlines this stuff that I missed??

I'm sure it's awesome, but I just can't buy a piece of software when I have no idea how it interfaces with the DAW's I use. Especially because Reaper is so customizable. The channel strips themselves can be changed, as well as which options are available. How would that be reflected in the V-Control mixing interface?

A basic youtube video going over the features would be VERY helpful. The one they currently have posted (which seems to be for the older version) doesn't really answer any questions on the specifics of the GUI.

For Reaper, V-Control operates using the Mackie Control protocol. The user interface provides most of the buttons you see on a Mackie Control Universal. Reaper does not document its Mackie control functionality in any way, shape, or form that we have been able to obtain. Through experimentation we found that it provides fairly minimal, basic functionality. We also found a user had created a separate control surface plug-in but it seemed to be written by a hobbyist and had no official web page we could find. But we had some Reaper users contact us asking for support. So we put in all buttons that we think might eventually be supported, and we provided the V-Window feature to extend touch control to the Reaper windows. I strongly urge you to contact Cockos and ask them for documentation on using a Mackie Control controller. Some other DAW's have very good documentation that allowed us to provide better documentation in V-Control. If you do have some documentation that I somehow missed, be sure to send it my way using a support request at neyrinck.com.

Got it, and will do.

I do know that Reaper is lacking when it comes to control surface support. I just wasn't sure if V-Control had some other way of communicating with the DAW. OSC? I'm VERY green when it comes to this stuff.

The V-Window feature is what's really got me interested though as my BIG need/want is an elegant plugin controller. Looking forward to more reviews.

I bought a new IPad just for this update... how's that for a vote of confidence.

I'm using a nocturn for plugin control and the combination is incredibly powerful.

Although I'm used to the nocturn I find myself flipping between that and the V-window depending on which hand is nearer : )

I'd hate to say something as trite as "it's a game changer", but as it's changing my workflow so thoroughly I guess I should call a spade a spade.

Amazing work Mr.Neyrinck.

As a long time Digidesign Control|24 user and fan, I have some interest in exploring this method of Pro Tools and Logic control. Where can we get a demo or trial period? I don't see a trial period version at the Apple App Store location. Do we email request the company directly?

There's a stripped down free version available on the app store.

I have a question for the developer.

Is the Logic implementation of this app as fully featured as the other versions, like ProTools? Does Logic use OSC while Protools uses Mackie control protocol?

Studio One software does not transmit metering to control surfaces. We left the meters in so that Presonus will hopefully add that. Their control surface support for Mackie COntrol protocol is fairly minimal. Presonus has a place to request features here: Studio One Feature Requests.

But V-Control does have the V-Window feature that lets you see and adjust DAW windows so maybe that can help you with metering when setting record levels, for example.

Question for the Dev or anyone with the full version of this app.

-How does the V-Window work when entering text? Can you type in to a dialouge box with the standard onscreen iPad keyboard?

V-Window does not provide text entry in version 1.5. V-Window is designed primarily to let you control knobs, buttons, and sliders so you can better use the natural interface of plug-ins and instruments.

Thx. Would be nice to see that in a future update. Would be great when say searching through a plugin folder, or when working inside another app. I'm sure this would need some tricky code, but it would be great if you could toggle the V-Window between the way it functions currently in V1.5 and as normal iPad multi-touch interface.

Great revision

bought it six months ago, tried hard and couldn't make it work (not with pro Tools nor Cubase/Nuendo.) wrote it down as a lost app money and moved on.

today got intrigued again, upgraded to the new version.
it's working!
so far it works well with studio one and the V screen is fantastic addition for controlling the prism Orpheus ins and out's.
tomorrow will check it with pro tools and cubase
Good Work Neyrick!!

How do we get v 1.5? I checked my app updates and it's not listed. Do I have to pay for it again? I currently have Version 1.1 Pro.
