[QUOTE=panatrope;7526891]Go checkout the chip spec sheets from all the usual suspects, and find one that offers that conversion latency. Then apply the "if it looks like a duck ..." philosophy.

Yea - I tried that. Guess my duck-spotting is not what it used to be.

Hi Question for UCX users:
When using the digitally controlled Preamps, can you hear stepping, clicking or any other artifacts when raising or lowering preamp gain during a recording?
Is the gain stepped or continuous?
I'm asking because the avid PRE Preamps are unusable for this reason.
Thanks

I have experience with the UFX, which has the same preamp. You won't really hear clicks or anything if you're careful. If you adjust 10-50 dB in one second you might hear zipper artifacts but for normal use you'd be hard pressed to hear anything. Btw, autoset is a great feature.

Thanks Mats, that's what I needed to hear.

Beat me to it. I have a UFX and have never heard artifacts while riding the gain during recording. Granted, it was only within 5dB max.

Hi, I have some questions, hope you can help me.

- UCX, as a stand-alone unit, how many recorded mono tracks can you hear when playing back, using the UCX front panel controls (that´s it, without TotalMix)?

- I think UFX, in stand-alone mode, stores the tracks recorded into usb pen drives or external usb hard drives, the questions is: where do UCX ,in standalone mode, stores the tracks Data? Is it stored into the iPad? I have never owned or used an iPad.

I would like to hear more about UCX converters quality. Exspecially AD ones.

Are they the same as UFX?

Thanks

I was also wondering about the converters on the UCX. On the RME Website I couldn't find anywhere that states that the converters are the same as the UFX. I did found this video on youtube. If you fast forward to 1:05min he refers to the converters on the UCX as "they are based on the UFX, not quite as good, but very close". Even if the conversion is not quite the same, it looks like it should be a very good interface.

thanks tothemoon.

With all the due respect to that review, the guy is only saying they are "not as good as". It is a too much subjective opinion, without any tech details.
What we need is a clarification from RME imho.
RME is a great company we do really like its products, that's why we are interested in it.

FYI, looks like they are releasing a Standard Edition with no remote so you can chose to get the advanced instead.

That's a great idea... though I just wish they announced this a month ago before I bought mine with just the basic remote!

I haven't A/B'd against the UFX, but they are excellent--extensive range and detail. I've had lynx aurora, MH 2882 d+, cranesong hedd, ensemble, mr816, BLA's...thrilled with this box.

As there is no DURec on UCX, I guess, there isn´t playback controls on the blue screen.

I got it from the RME forum.

"when used with an iPad, the iPad itself will do the recording"

when is UCX expected to be available?

Dates are important to help potential customers to decide one product or the other? Not everybody is willing to wait for a long period of time, depending on how much you like it and price.

I am searching for a two high quality channels interface (PC) with converters, at least, as good as the ones in UFX, if the UCX would have the UFX converters, it would buy it, if that´s not the case, I wont.
