TK Audio BC2-ME

Just got this newsletter from TK Audio...

TK Audio’s vision is to make products that will satisfy our customers needs. During years of success with our BC1 we have received a lot of requests of customize units with stepped controls, more suitable for mastering. Therefore we now launch BC2-ME, a unit perfect for mastering. Except for the stepped controls we also added some nice features like illuminated switches, switchable output-stage between electronically-balanced or transformer balanced class-A.

BC2-ME uses the same basic sound path as the BC1, plus the extra features. The class-A mode offers a more vintage tone, like fat, punchy low-end response with more low mid character. BC2-ME also has a switch that adds extra harmonics to the compressed signal. The blend control offers 23 steps from straight to compressed signal.

Features:

* All rotary controls stepped.

* All push buttons illuminated. Soft light when not engaged.

* THD switch, adds extra harmonics (even) to the compressed signal.

* Improved VCA circuit.

* Can be upgraded with separate VCA modules that holds up to eight VCA chips in
parallel to get as low noise as possible.

* True bypass.

* Stepped precision blend control using a 4-deck ELMA switch.

* Five HPF frequencies.

* Gain-reduction meter with 20 LED’s, 0.5dB resolution.

* Ratio starts at 1.25:1

* Threshold -10dB to +10dB. 41 steps.

* Make-up gain 0 to 10dB, 41 steps.

* Output switchable between electronically-balanced or transformer-balanced class-A.

* Balanced, external sidechain inputs.

More info and price on the web page very soon!
Shipping expect to start in February 2012.

I always wished my BC1 had more HP freq to choose from and a switchable transformer output stage.

This is really some great news! I have a feeling this will be another hit from TK Audio.

Well the inside layout took much longer than expected as we have been pretty busy last year. More units in this line will be presented soon.

The only thing CL1mk2 and BC2-ME is charing is the output stage. CL1mk2 uses a diode bridge and three transformer so the sound is quite different.

Hi Tekay!
This product seems really nice.
One question about the CL1mk2... Is it more compressing in a 2254 or 33609 way?

The sound path is a mix of a 33609 and 2254, all class-A.

Another question... For a more authentic FX384 compression is it possible to replace the VCA by an older one as in the 384?
I love the idea of carnhills on an SSL Bus style comp so much.

Haven't tried an old DBX VCA in there but I can't see any problems of putting one in there. The old VCA circuits that DBX used is not available any more.

May I ask you what exactly does the THD do?

The VCA circuit has a trimmer for lowest THD, the THD switch will raise it to the about 0,5-1% THD. Harmonics are mostly even.

It's not just the transformers that is switched in and out, it's also a discrete class A circuit that is driving the transformers.

Tekay, please remind me again which these are? Neve and?? So is this a departure from the more SSL like sound? Wish I could hear it...

Wow. Pricey, but has fantastic features and stepped is worth it. Looks like it's worth every penny. Also, love the idea of switchable between electronically balanced and transformers. Beautiful stuff.

Congrats. Gonna definitely get around to demoing this.

Regards,
Frank
