Electronics guru Alex Aguilar, former president and design engineer at Aguilar Amplification, is announcing Alairex, a brand new company whose initial focus will be on cutting edge products geared toward the guitarist. The first product being presented is the HALO (Harmonic Amp-Like Overdrive) pedal ($399 MSRP). The result of several years of R&D, the HALO is a radical departure from other overdrive pedal designs. The goal of the HALO is to provide a high quality, no compromise effects pedal delivering harmonically rich distortion characteristics that feel, sound and react to picking nuances like the best tube amplifier designs. The result is a pedal that is sonically equivalent (and, in many cases superior) to tube saturation in the best guitar amps, while also producing tones that previously were not possible within solid state circuit topology. “The HALO overdrive delivers a playing experience that enables the player to feel “connected” to not only the distortion content and tone, but also provides complete control of these components by virtue of highly responsive circuitry that reacts to individual player articulation”, explains Aguilar. “Your guitar sound and individuality are retained perfectly, and any sound from a beautiful clean boost free from harshness, to massive high gain saturation and sustain are available instantly.” Alairex is shipping the HALO overdrive pedal immediately, and will soon release a series of amp heads and combo amps featuring HALO circuitry.  dB
