TriTone Digital : New utility plugin for recalling gears

Hello dear gearslutz !

We're about to release an unusual utility plugin named RecallTone.
It's unusual from us, because it does not process sound, though can actually save a LOT of time, when recalling hardware gears.

Currently, this plugin is for OSX only (PPC, intel, 64 bits AU/VST/RTAS - we're working on the VST/RTAS PC version).

So what make it special ?
Among others, it can load pictures - and even movie - that will be saved within your DAW session !
So if you want to save your nice guitar cab settings for the next overdub, or save the precious mix settings of your hardwares, or keep a trace of your micing positions etc... Just use your smartphone, or any camera, shoot around, connect to computer and drag and drop the media on the plugins UI.
Save your session and voilà :-)

Upon recall, you'll have all the medias right within your DAW session.
Double click to see pictures in full screen, and reset your gears according to the picture or the video.

Of course, there's as well a space to save comments & notes etc...

RecallTone can also send midi program changes (I use that for my lex reverbs), and sysex too (I use that for my M6000) etc...
Sure this could also be done with midi tracks, but it's much easier to manage this stuff with RecallTone. For example, you do not need you to unmute or even play the additional midi tracks. RecallTone send the midi data out upon instantiation. So at the moment you hit play, everything is already recalled.

Another interesting point is that it can launch external applications or files, (like Melodyne arrangments, Kontakt patches, text file for lyrics etc...). This is very useful if your session need to be synced (i.e. any rewire app), or to open a text file containing lyrics or chords. An common example is Celemony Melodyne in Rewire, which need to be launched after protools, when the melodyne bridge plugins are finished to be instantiated. Otherwise, the rewire connection would not be made. RecallTone can launch Melodyne at the proper moment, with customizable 'wait' amount of seconds.

You can also launch file upon de-instantiation.
This is very handy for backup/archiving purpose, or to launch an automator script that you would like to take place when you close the session, to create mp3/upload/create email etc...

Last, there's also a little module which allow you to create custom pop up message when the plugin is instantiated.
It's a way to display important informations about the session. Kind of "read me first" that you can not miss. If you want, it'll pop just in the middle of the screen when the session open. btw : for this feature, RecallTone UI does not even need to be opened.

Demo is available.
Retail price will be 49€. Until 31 december there's an introducary price of 29€.

Here's the link : (http://www.tritonedigital.com/index....virtuemart&=20)

We hope you'll find this plugin as much useful as we are.
If you deal with hardware gears, as I am, this really will make your life easier, and, down the roads literally save hours of work.

If you have any features suggestions, this is welcomed too!

Interesting idea. I'd like to see a picture of what it looks like when a session opens.

Hello,

Here's a simple example (btw : the UI is smaller in this screenshot, because I am not using midi or video in this session) :
I just typed "Read me first" as popup message.

And when opening the session in protools, it pop :

Easy,

Interesting concept. I had something similar in Scope system but this is way easier and support more media. Midi and sysex. Excellent!

I hope plugin will made success and grow even further!

Good luck!

edit: i just noticed there isn't pc demo. Any ETA or this is going to be only for MAC?

Hello Greg,

<OT :
I hear you. AngelTone is the next plugin release. (I'm testing internally at the moment, but there's somes new features I want to add before release like MS processing etc...)
BTW : How do you like AngelTone ? This one is personally my favorite EQ plugin of all time... Most often, I use the the massivo for broad change and colour, the milly for treble shelves, the avy for tight bass, and the sony for mids and tweaks.
Truly beautiful sound there

What a great little helper!
Any plans when the windows VST version will be available?
No mac here!

The only thing missing is the integration of graphical recall sheets of hardware (à la Teaboy).
But don't get me wrong, great product!

Hello,

Windows VST & RTAS is in advanced development.
Thanks for asking.

Regarding your suggestion, once you use pictures/movies, you don't need anymore the paper recall sheet or any other graphical representation.
It's much quicker too (as it does not require to fill such template) and as the pictures /movies can be seen in fullscreen, it's also more precise than any manual approximation. (tip : the movie can also be played frame by frame using the keyboard arrow)

Standalone

Great concept.
I have a couple of questions:
- Do you insert the RecallTone plugin in each track for recalling each track setting, or is it a "central" plugin where the settings for all tracks can be registered (and console, patchbay, etc)?
- Is there a limit of instances per session/project?
- Does it works in standalone mode? Sometimes you are preparing your console, patchbay, outboard gear or even a guitar sound with a specific guitar+amp+box+pedal chain, and it would be useful to check recalls of past sessions without having to open a session or open any DAW at all. Also, it would be good because you could still open it independent of later DAW versions, having no need for making updates for specific DAW requirements (ProTools AAX comes to mind)... this would make sure that old recalls could still be opened. The only compatibility concern would be the one with the computers operating system. You could actually make it an APP for iphone and ipad and you could make and have your recalls available anywhere...

Thanks for the infos!
I assume it's possible to attach traditional recall sheets (for example a .doc file or anything else) in case there's no photos/videos available?

Hello G-spot,

Very pertinent questions I should say, and good opportunity to explain and give more details.

1. The plugin is meant to be the 'central' station of your recall.
You insert one RecallTone i.e. on the master track, or an aux channel, or whatever (It's not processing the sound at all : bit transparent) and you can use the UI to save all the informations of the session.

2. There's no instances count limitation, and you can insert several RecallTone if you need to store more than 5 pics etc....
Though note that I added an internal 30 MB limit for videos, which on an iPhone represent about 3 min of shooting. I've tested larger file with success, but I'm sure you don't need to load in the latest star wars movie isn't it :-) In fact, usually when shooting a recall video I would just pass over my racks and stay about 5 second per gear, and upon recall, I use stop play in full screen to comfortably recall my hardwares. I'm preparing a youtube demo which will show the power of this tool.

Note : While Protools, Digital performer etc... are fine with large file, Logic Audio has a 7 MB storage limit available for per plugin.

3. Standalone is possible sure. In fact, while developing, I compiled the code as an stand alone application, and most of it already can work on the iPhone. iPad my be cooler because of screen dimension though. But you would loose the midi & launch scripts features and, for such devices, I may then lower further the video size restriction (which is no a problem actually, see 2.)

4. I'm also working on AAX, and I guess they should recall each others. More on this later.
I've not yet done direct test.Anyone know if the RTAS AIR plugins settings can be recalled by their AAX counterpart ?

But the code for recall is really robust (obviously !) and also platform independent. It's directly dealing with bits. So you can change OS, upgrade protools and all, without worry.
I'm also working on ways to share a session containing recallTone settings another studios. Maybe a reader plugin available for free that you could send along the session. But even if the other studio don't have the plugin, as long as they don't remove the insert, they can work on it, send the session back to you and your RecallTone settings are still there.

TheSweetener
No direct .doc or .pdf loading yet. But this could be easily done using the Preview app build into OSX :
i.e. Open the .pdf with Preview -> save as .jpg. Then drag and drop the .jpg onto RecallTone's UI. Done.
If interested, I may write an automator application for batch converting such files.

Sounds more and more interesting

Are the files (photos and videos) autostored in the project folder or do I have to move them manually?

Nothing manual : They are stored INSIDE the session.
So for example with protools, inside mySong.ptf

At some point, I may add an option to make copy of the files (automatic and invisible to the user) in a subfolder of the session too...

I definitively need to finish that video tutorial

Thanks salvator for the detailed answers.

It was the 5 photo limit that triggered the question about the amount of instances...

More food for thought:
The Video is really a nice feature, but some times an audio file would suffice and would be more effective (smaller file size, don't need to type information that can't be seen):
"Les Paul Standard in Drop D, to Radial JD7 that splits to JCM 800, Diezel VH4 (phase inverted) and Peavey JSX. JCM 800 to Marshall 4xCelestions 75 cab, VH4 to Diezel Cab V30, JSX to Mesa cab V30. See photos for mic placement and amp settings". It would be difficult to film the all chain, specially if you have the amps in the mixing room and the cabs in the rec boot. Also making photos of the chain would not be "self-explaining" and one would need more than 5 photos. This way you just take photos of the amps settings and mic placement. The audio file could be of lower quality since it is merely informative.

I loved AngelTone but in it's previous life it was incredibly buggy but often worth the battle because it sounded so damned good. I used the various models exactly as you just described though I often used sony for bottom end with a bit of vibe as well. I'm delighted to hear it's next in line because I REALLY miss it as a tool, it has way more character than my Massenburg (which is certainly a fine plugin) and is really fun to use unlike so many other plugin EQs. It generated more smiles than any of my other software EQs. I can't wait for you to get that mother*#&^@% fixed!

ps. I have the massivo and milly hardware EQs amongst my tools as well but I can't convince them to multiply themselves...

As promised, here's a short video presentation of what this plugin can do
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WekpNdCPA-0

btw : AngelTone is coming (you can see it's already in the insert list on this video). We're also about to release ClassicTone-560 (graphic vintage EQ) that sound very very punchy and musical. Then AngelTone, with exiting features that will shake the industry.

This looks like a very cool plugin to get soon!

So if I am understanding well, TriTone Digital is reconsidering developing plugin for PC again or they are just going to develop for this recall plug?

I myself find that they did a big mistake not supporting Windows PC plugin as we can see many other major Devs from DAW devs etc... understood that the wheel is changing and they need Cross-Platform.

In case not, I hope they will reconsider for the PC users & looking for the PC version of this plugin

Cheers
