Software Presonus Studio One V2

Here are some of the important new features in Studio One 2.

- Integrated Melodyne pitch correction. Studio One 2 seamlessly integrates Celemony’s Melodyne so tightly that, for practical purposes, Melodyne is simply a part of Studio One. You hear your edits in context with the rest of the arrangement, and when finished editing, render the audio in place—no track transfers or manual rendering! Furthermore, edits made in the arrangement are seamlessly synced in Melodyne. Want to go back to where you were? It takes one click. No other DAW can do this. Melodyne Essential comes with Studio One Professional 2; Studio One Artist 2 and Producer 2 come with a Melodyne trial version.

- Transient detection, editing, and groove extraction. Sure, you can do transient detection and editing in other DAWs—but it can be slow and painful. In Studio One, you simply select an audio event and press Q to quantize. Groove extraction is as simple as drag-and-drop; extract a groove from any audio and apply it to any other audio in seconds!

- Multitrack comping done right. Single and multitrack comping are quick and easy in Studio One—and faster than with most DAWs! No tool-switching is needed, and crossfading between takes is automated, although you can edit the fades. Auditioning takes is as simple as holding Alt and clicking on a take.

- Find it quickly. Studio One’s Browser offers quick access to instruments, effects, sounds, files, and more. In version 2, you can search within any location in the Browser, making it even faster and easier to find the resources you want.

- Organize your tracks. Organizing related tracks and working with them as a group is a breeze with Folder Tracks. Group and bus your Folder Tracks with the click of a button—an exclusive Studio One feature.

Edit multiple MIDI tracks simultaneously. Now you can view and edit more than one instrument track at a time in the Music Editor, including editing multiple parts on different Tracks at once.

- A great plug-in collection just got better. Studio One’s Native Effects plug-ins have drawn rave reviews from the media. Now they’re even better. The Ampire guitar-amp modeler is now Ampire XT and features new amp models, a new convolution-based cabinet-modeling section and an effects section. And the new OpenAIR convolution reverb delivers ultra-realistic reverberation based on real spaces and classic hardware reverbs. To top it off, with the new IR Maker, you can capture your own impulse responses.

- Enhanced mastering with Studio One Professional. No other DAW offers a truly integrated mastering suite comparable to the Project page in Studio One Professional. To its already extensive list of mastering and distribution features, Version 2 adds DDP Export, PQ editing, and higher-quality sample-rate conversion.

PreSonus now offers three versions of Studio One 2: Artist, Producer, and Professional. Studio One Artist delivers all of the core audio and MIDI recording and editing features, plus 26 32-bit effects plug-ins and 4 virtual instruments, and there is no limit on track count and plug-in instantiations. Studio One Producer includes everything in Studio One Artist and adds support for ReWire and AU/VST plug-ins, MP3 import and export, and additional third-party content.

Studio One Professional has everything in Studio One Artist and Producer and adds the Project page, an integrated mastering solution; fully licensed Melodyne Essential pitch correction; SoundCloud™ support; Red Book CD burning; video playback and sync; and five more Native Effects plug-ins.

Studio One 2 is expected to ship on November 1, 2011. Recommended retail prices are: Studio One Artist £89; Studio One Producer £159; and Studio One Professional £299. Upgrade paths enable users to move up as their needs grow.

Looks really nice. I'm pretty much married to Logic at this point, but this looks like it has the potential to be even better. The color scheme and basic layout make me wonder if they're specifically going after Logic's user base (though that's probably just me wearing my tin foil hat again).

That transient video looks almost exactly like Logic's Flex Time, but if it's less quirky it could easily come out on top. And the Melodyne integration... amazing. I've been dreaming of that for a while, and though I imagine it's only a matter of time before all the DAWs set up the ARA integration, it makes me jealous of anybody using Studio One right now!

Also, the evidence that Celemony is run by the reincarnated soul of Einstein is continuing to pile up.

I am so excited about version 2.0
Here is some other features from PreSonus website!!!!

Track Transform
Studio One now features an innovative Track Transform feature, as well as event-based effects.
Audio and instrument tracks feature the new Transform feature, which you can think of as a very flexible alternative to “freezing.” An entire audio track can be rendered in place with one click, removing any inserted effects plug-ins and conserving CPU power while still allowing normal editing. One click restores the original audio events and any inserted effects.
One click can also transform an instrument track into an audio track, and the audio can then be edited normally. (Notes are displayed as a clear indication that the audio has been transformed from an instrument.) This conserves a lot of CPU power with today’s advanced virtual instruments, and it opens many creative possibilities that were too bothersome to attempt before now. And, as you might guess, one click brings the instrument track right back.

I said I would revisit Studio One when it hit v2. So I will demo when available. Previous versions were missing too much.

Can someone tell me what is the algo used in V2 for time-stretching/pitch-shifting ?

I curious about that, because the tool to manipulate transients and extend/compress them see spot on !

For sampled music loop you want to re-quantize it looks cool.

I am really exited about all developments but mostly about the hardware integration, which is awesome

Thumbs up

Watched the videos..WOW...Game changer!! I just purchased PT HD9 Native with the Omino i/o..Well, i'm glad I got the Omni HD unit, but this version 2 of Studio One, makes me want to return HD native..

Being a long time Nuendo user, I knew the Studio One team (former Steinberg Engineers ) would take the Nuendo project (Ala Studio one) to an entire new Level. And, look at what they have accomplished in just it's second version.

The Melodyne implementation, the transient implementation...On and on. This is the way all Daws should work.. Drag and drop..Track comping..

It says in Studio One V1, on the news feed when you open Studio One, that you can upgrade from Artist V1 to Pro V1 for $99 until October 31st. Then on the new upgrades for 2, you can upgrade from Pro V1 to Pro V2 for $99. So taking this path, you would be paying just $198 for upgrading.

However, if you upgrade from V1 Artist to V2 Pro on the website, it's $299! And there's seems to be no way to get V1 for $99.

Looking to save $99 here.

Can someone from Presonus help with this?

The Melodyne implementation will be open to other DAWs as well.

Melodyne editor, assistant and essential from Version 1.3 onwards are equipped with ARA. The first DAW to implement ARA is Presonus Studio One Version 2 – in this combination Melodyne can already be used with ARA. Other manufacturers and products will follow.

As far as I know it's zPlane Elastique Pro, the same thing most everyone else is using.

With which kind of material? Was it a full mix? I'd mainly use it for drums only.

How bad are the artifacts compared to PT's Elastic Audio?

The transient detection system and quantizing is amazing!

There's just one thing, does it have a freeze button/system? This will be the deal breaker for me switching from Logic 9!

No problem. Yes, it's had video playback since version 1.5 almost two years ago.

It has "Transform" which is a freeze like feature with some unique twists. It may or may not fill your needs... you'll have to demo to see.

Furthermore, every audio event in the arrangement has its own insert device rack, where any number of effects can be inserted, just like the insert device rack found on all mixer channels. When the desired sound is achieved, these effects can be rendered with a single click, removing the effects plug-in and conserving CPU power. And of course, one click can restore the effects for further editing at any time.
