Saturation plug-in for TDM & RTAS

Following on the heels of the vt3 3-band EQ, I've just finished up another Pro Tools plug-in. This one is a tube/tape saturation process meant to give tracks a little more character and loudness when it's called for. Find it at: http://www.smassey.com/plugins.html

Like the EQ, there's a usuable demo that never expires. But, if you want to upgrade to a few more features, there's a full version for only $69.

Let me know how it sounds!

I haven't tried them yet, but I love your simple but stylish GUI's, not to mention your philosophy of free versions for promotion. Will you ever do other plugin formats as well?

I can't.

I'm on Win XP! (Hint, hint!) Please do a Win XP version!

Can you "port to Xcode"?? (What ever that means! I just heard it from a developer going Win XP soon.)

Someone needs to make a Mac to PC plug-in wrapper. I know it's probably not possible, but dreamers can dream.

Any chance of VST versions?

I'm on Nuendo3 these days, and although I still have PT (mix), I never upgraded to OS X....

Your saturation plugin sounds very interesting!

Cheers,

steve, all i can say is it's perfect. no plug developer has nailed this sound, and it is a very important link that has been missing.

Yep, sorry, they're both Mac-only at this point. Maybe, just maybe, I'll do XP versions someday, but I make no promises right now! There's just not enough time in the day

Thanks for the interest,
Steve

Does it "glue"?
Is it comparable to Mcdsp's analog channel?
Reviews sound good so far.

it does the "glue" thing. it seems to do somthing really cool in the mids. it would be be cool if another switch that added a "low boost" was put in, but this thing is so dead on it would hardly matter.

as for mcdsp, it does what it does, which is great, but it always felt like a combo eq/compressor with buttons that just named a specific tape deck. it does not do what tape head does. lofi kinda of did, but this is way better.

Hi steven. Just a quick techie question. Once you've programmed a plug for TDM is it easy to port RTAS and vice versa? what about other formats?

Obviously the maths/logic DSP applied to the signal will have been written, but I'm meaning the format specific part of the programming.

thanks

There's no simple answer to this question, but porting between RTAS and TDM is never really easy. It takes a good amount of patience and time, depending on the algorithm. For example, with a recent plug-in I've been working on... the algorithm is totally done and the RTAS is working nicely. However, I've been wrapped up in the TDM conversion for weeks, and it's still not working properly.

Porting to other formats is a different beast, and involves a lot of re-coding of the user interface, not the audio processing bits.
