$99. Surprising. I will have to check out the demo. Just earlier today I was wishing for a Master Tape emulation as I have just been putting UAD a800 on the master buss.

I wonder how it compared with the UAD plug in!

Developed in association with producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin), the MPX Master Tape plugin is modeled on a rare machine consisting of an Ampex 350 transport and 351 electronics. With adjustable tape speed, bias, flux, wow & flutter, and noise parameters, the MPX provides comprehensive control over the contours of your sound. And to top it off, we’ve added a flexible slap & feedback delay, ideal for rock, dance, dub, you name it.

For recording, mixing, mastering, and more, bring the richness and warmth of real tape saturation to your DAW with the MPX Master Tape.

It looks a lot like the mono Ampex tube unit it emulates.

hey 99$ ain't bad..
Guy seems a mix between Ampex preamp and SHMC, would be better without
the reels tho', kinda jammed looking like they wanted to squeeze in it all the "cool" things.. oh well, what gives, if it sounds good is good

Oh for the love of... iLok site is still f@cked up!?!? I *hate* it so much is not even funny.. Not able to check the demo, great.

If I was Waves and any other plugin company that uses iLok i'd be LIVID,
there's such a thing as "impulse purchase" which most likely is what I'd've fell into with this one, thanks to iLok that made me sad in the pants once more,
I doubt is gonna happen

*give me back the pissing monkey icon* --> ilok

Wow, Waves has finally done a tape emulation. I'm glad this day has arrived.

I wonder how long the intro price is good for? Does anyone know? I won't have a chance to demo this for a few days...

Oh man I'm a sucker for tape emu's....

And that Wow and Flutter seems a great addition...

I don't like Waves / how they deal business and I'd like to stay away from them as much as I could.

But if this is sounding great I won't break my main principle : great sounding records are great sounding records...

And the price seems nice hmm.. If I get only this (and maybe the Aphex) I won't get into any bundles WUP WAP WARP and other gimmicks so I couldn't be hurt by their workings ?? could I??

To demo this do you have to download the entire V8 installer kit or can you access a download link for just the single plugin?

I only see the TDM demo in my account.

They give the other installers with the TDM version - they note this on the download page in a different spot.

Confusing....

Yep. The demo will only say "TDM" in your account, but it's got both TDM and Native in there. It's one of those weird, inexplicable Waves things. There are others, as well, of course...

The penny has droppeth Waves have realised they may just be pricing themselves out of what is an incredibly competitive market, and now those pockets are full to the brim time to release a now more realistically priced product (when you look at what's currently available) good price at last from waves.

Software

At last!

I gotta say though, it looks awfull.

The white paper was a good read.

"When reaching higher flux levels you will notice that the low frequencies and very high frequencies become more and more distorted as the noise level goes down. Additionally there is another layer of distortion since these increased operating levels also stress the valve input and output stages, giving you the bonus of an additional level of overall “tube distortion.

Kramer MPX is the first tape modeling plugin that has actually managed to create a continuously variable flux control, letting the user sonically understand the changes between different recording levels. Add to this that this is also being done on a fully valve electronics tape machine and you truly have a one of a kind plugin - unique in the industry.

As an added feature, using MPX in the input only mode allows you to add the sound of the input and output valve electronics, minus the sound of analogue tape recording. Increasing the record level as you reduce the playback level (to maintain unity gain) increases the valve saturation of the input and output amplifiers, independent of the flux control (which only effects tape saturation). These controls can be used either in conjunction with the sound of the tape saturation, or without the tape saturation to create just the sound of the Ampex valve amplifiers operating across their entire range of saturation."

It does look pretty bad...are the demo downloads in the waves area or ilok accounts?

Good question. I can't find the installer for this plug-in in my area. I got the iLok license, tho. Could someone please confirm if we should download the whole V8 pack? Thanks.

Location of installer

I had trouble finding it in the V8 installer, so I figured others might too. It's called "Kramer MXP Master Tape" under singles.

Has no one thought of a print through effect? Not the heads out/tails in like on Whole Lotta Love, but just a long delay to go with the tape emulation?

So I guess the answer is that we have to DL the entire V8 pack.
