Question: Does the bus-comp still employ three needles on the VU GUI? One would be more pleasing to the eye, IMHO, if you don't mind my saying.
There are two needles in this version: input level and compression.
Not sure what is better. We can see VU level, peak level, gain reduction together or not. Isn't it a lot more helpful instead of having to switch a selector for each measure?

Curious about what people think about this.

First of all I'm a really big fan of your roundtone. Thanks for that!

Regarding metering on stripbus:

three needles in one meter is a bit too much I guess. Why not ditch the peakmeter and replace it with a clip led?

Also for gainreduction I'd like to see a row of leds beneath the VU (dbx style). I believe it's more practical this way and looks killer.

Cheers!

Ok, so we could replace the third needle (gain reduction) with a row of leds below the meter.
The K-meter requires VU and peak together, though (and it is extremely useful).
So we could have:
- two needles: VU and peak and an input-output switch (dynamics pre and post compression)
- a row of horizontal leds for gain reduction below the meter

These two needles wouldn't be confusing because one (VU) is always lower than the other one (peak), so we get a display of dynamics, too (the distance between the two needles)

This is for the bus compressor.
The strip would have just VU and peak needles.

What about having an IN/OUT/GR switch like most other plugs (people are used to it) and maybe a VU/Peak/Both switch. VU and Peak Needle could have different colours like IIRC it is at the Glue.

Imho GR is easier to read with needles, though thats a matter of taste.
On the other hand it depends on the size too... it would be better to have a led display rather than a supersmall vu meter(for GR).

Your idea is great! All the info we need on needles + LEDs for GR is fine!

I would vote for the good old school selector switch... One needle in my eye is enough ...

Yet I get Q's word on proposing a small vu needle and tall peak needle to have that instant visual on the pseudo dynamic range (delta between vu and peak) ...

My point is that a strip should just stay simple and not turn into a metering box...

Should take a peek at the Midnight compressor from Focusrite Quinto, they've got a VU and underneath it you see the compression amount by little blue led's underneath. It's pretty clean and works well.

Thanks for asking for input, Quinto. My vote is for one needle, plus two ears! ;D

If you need some extra testing help, I can stress test the crap out of it for ya for CPU/RAM efficiency. I'm dang good at crashing programs on windows, especially pro tools, so it would also be good for checking wrapper compatibility.

Thanks, as soon as the beta is ready I could ask for some crash testing

Just shoot me a message when you need a hand. I may not be able to give you a super duper in depth report but I can at least tell you how many instances at what sample rate and how much CPU PT is using paired with the wrapper and check back and forth between my RAM monitor and get a general idea of how much is taken up. I know by default on my system Pro Tools takes up about 350mbs of RAM.

OT but this comes to mind: How about a gui lifting for roundtone, presence and stripbus ? Something skinnable, or a bit sexier ?

Mmmhhh... we got great feedback about the simple and clean interface.
Roundtone thread started with "what a nice gui, let's listen to it"

Roundtone is going to get a meter, anyway.

The grey colors probably...? A bit plain and stark on me ... Like a 50's typewriter from east germany, but why not if the majority likes these guis that way...

Can't wait for this too. Actually I'm more excited about this than most other channel/buss processors.

This is an "alpha" testing, actually, we need to choose some details, ranges and more. But no bug reports on this version (just a small meter issue) so it could be very fast

Hi Quintosardo and everyone, this is my first post on GS!

Been watching this thread and gotta say I'm really excited about StripBus. Such a great price too. Let me know if you need another Beta tester. :-) Have you got a release date?

Hi Stevie,
welcome here

It could be ready before the end of this month, closing the tests and "tuning" parameters...

While the first bus compressor version is being tested, the second one is ready to go.
The first one is a 4xxx, while the second one is a 117x (), but they both are far more versatile than the standard ones, because we have not been limited by hardware. Special features like auto mode, special sidechain, mid-side compression and extended parameters made them a great set of very special gears.
I see myself putting the first one on main bus and the second one on groups, but we'll see...

I hope that the ridiculous price won't make people overlook these

It would be cool to release a working mac vst wrapper at launch time too... Or a mac audiosuite/rtas
