SamplesLoops Drum samples : My snare drum collection for $30 only ! Rec. through Vintech, Lavry...

Hello guys, here is a new product : my snare drum collection !

I sampled a 15 snare drums collection, using high end gear and my background as a drummer. You'll find multi-velocities samples (4 rimshot hits, 3 medium hits, and 3 soft hits) in WAV format (top and bottom snare) for each one.
All samples are natural, no post-processing involved.

Here is a link to download the demo version, including two snares, Tama Starclassic Bubinga and Sonor Designer Maple :
http://sylvain.raulin.free.fr/SLYS%2...0DEMO%20V2.zip

If you want to order the library, please contact me via PM. Price is $30 / 22 euros

Product description's details :

SNARES

- For each snare, you'll find two folders, one for top snare samples, and one for the corresponding bottom snare samples :

- Four "rimshot" samples - the snare is hit hard for a nice crack and transient definition, resulting in controlled low mids and crisp high mids

- Three "medium" samples - the snare is hit a bit softer but sill has attack and body

- Three "soft" samples - the snare is hit softer, this can be used for ghost notes or rolls

- A picture of the actual snare drum

Here is the complete list of the snares you'll find in the package :

DW Collector Maple Finish Ply 14 x 5
DW Eco-X (bamboo/birch) 14 x 5
DW PDP Acrylic
GRETSCH Full Range Maple 14 x 5,5
GRETSCH Hammered Brass 14 x 8
GRETSCH Mark Schulman Signature 13 x 6 (maple/bubinga)
MAPEX Black Panther Brass 14 x 5,5
PEARL Free Floating (steel shell) 14 x 6,5
PEARL Masters Premium Series Maple 14 x 5,5
PEARL Omar Hakim Signature (mahogany) 13 x 5
SONOR Designer maple 14 x 4
TAMA Starclassic Bubinga 14 x 5,5
TAMA Starphonic Maple 14 x 5,5
YAMAHA Birch Custom Absolute 14 x 5,5
YAMAHA Signature John JR Robinson 15 x 5 (birch)

Technical recording info :

Each snare was recorded in 24 bits / 44.1 khz through an AKG C414 XL2 going into a Vintech X81 mic pre for the top, Shure SM57 into Mindprint Dual Tube Channel for the bottom ; then into Lavry Black AD converters.
I used the .WAV format.
Using a condenser mic on top really brings the natural brightness and low mid frequencies definition ; using the classic 57 on the bottom stands for mid color, wires texture and more crack.
The snares were tuned in a way that I think sounded good. Different drum heads were involved.
No other post-processing was involved. I chose to keep the natural dynamics of the playing and didn't normalize/gain-up the samples.
When mixing top and bottom samples, you'll notice that I also tried to get the best possible phasing (sounding the best to my ears when put in a mix context). Of course you'll be able to change this by moving/editing the samples yourself if you think it doesn't match the sound you go for.

At first, I created this library for my own use but knowing the fact that many rock and metal mix engineers (including me ! ) are in a constant quest of good drum samples, the idea came to sell it at an affordable price.
Those samples will work well both as sound reinforcement and drum MIDI programming.

ADDON (included)

This is a "bonus folder" with some samples of mine. Everything is "ready-to-use" edited except for the two room mics (me playing on a Pearl Reference in a big drum room) : it may be interesting to add some drum ambience to your tracks.
Those mics were smashed using an hardware SSL Gyraf compressor.

You can, of course, use those samples in any commercial production/mix etc.

If you have questions/suggesions/troubleshooting, do not hesitate to contact me by email, I'll answer as soon as possible !!
sylvain.raulin(at)gmail.com

Cheers and hope you enjoy !

Quick sample I did in 5 minutes using the Mapex snare in a "metal" context, using plugins.

If you were to make them available in trigger format, I would pay a little more. Just a thought.

unclejoe, lots of people suggested to do .TCI files, but I do not have the right software to do so, so I let people doing this from the WAV files. Anyway if someone can do it for me, I'll gladly get him a free copy of the snare library.

Happy days! I was going to buy anyway as the price is so good. If someone made the tci then all the better. I never seem to have the time or patience to do those things!

It seems like your velocities are fairly limited for snare. I would think you would want a lot of hard/med to really sound good and not have the machine gun effect in the sampler. I would be interested in this if there was a place to hear the samples and had more velocities.

Thanks
Jason

I know the number of samples is limited but I took care of keeping the "right ones" really. Maybe if you need more hits for a precise snare of my library, then I can edit some for you : I still have the original tracks, or I can send you the unedited files.

Here is a quick mixed sample using the Tama Bubinga snare, did that in a few minutes too. It's a project in which I have a big room behing the drums (the actual room you'll find in my library, in the folder "ADDON")
(may be a bit low mids heavy and compressed)

Just used a DW snare to replace a wrong snare mic in a song (extracted the snare hits from the pans), sounds great. I'll post some results as soon as possible.

I made TCI's for all the samples (except the ones from the Addon) containing 4 articulations per instrument: Full (all velocities), Rim (only rimshots), Hard (only the hard hits) and Soft (only the softer hits). I uploaded them so you should contact Sly if you want the TCI files or check online if you have access already.

If someone who bought the package could write a quick review, that would be really cool, posting a quick sample too

Thanks

Use a triggering plugin, check out Slate Digital's Trigger, you get a bunch of great samples with it as well!

Here a simple preview from a song I'm working on.
There was a bad snare, replacing it.

Great samples, I'll try to upload the whole song as soon as possible.

Your sample is flamming with the original. So your snare went from crisp to "fwap." So, one of two problems here, either the software is triggering a little late (threshold set wrong) or the samples are cut early. Also would be nice to hear something that's drastically replaced- the difference between your original the replaced snare is negligible if not unnecessary.

Really I'd just like to know if the "donk" snare is included. The donk snare is something like the snare on Seether's Like Suicide.

Here and there are some quick "metal" examples I did with drums (snare is totally replaced with the samples), didn't take too much time to tweak though.

I will post a complete mix soon, using one my snares.

I manually edited the samples, I think editing is OK

Snare completely replaced!
The goal was to remove that "sbank" snare.
No live triggering, a midi track was extracted for the snare. The new snare track just needs a single time aligment with the panoramics, that's why it does "fwap"

Back with a final result soon (the song)
