I have the first Duet, and I'm still happy with it.
Will the breakout box work with the first Duet?

I wonder how big of a step down the conversion is from the Symphony? This is making me reconsider my Babyface purchase
If the conversion is good enough, I don't care about the lack of digital I/O. That's what I'd want SPDIF for anyway is to use my Lavry Blue/Black.
Good news on being able to bypass the preamp.

So Apogee tries to beat the RME duet copy with a more stylish successor but less features? | Many of us speculate that they don't have digital I/O because then it could be used without a Mac. Again, that's just speculation.

I'm willing to pay the premium for Apogee quality, I don't need an Ensemble, but I need more than a Duet (I have one and love it, but if I'm going to upgrade I'd be upgrading for more inputs.) | I pretty read it the same way at first, just got really excited. 4 channels would be great.....as far as a new generation goes, so what, they made great products. I do hope the sound quality is significantly better than the Duet 1. Not that it was bad but I think the rme babyface is better: not as colored but more detailed. I have heard from some users that the babyface actually sounds better than the fireface 400/UC although rme claims they sound identical.
Has anyone had experience with both the babyface and fireface 400?
Ups, that's a bit off topic... . Anyhow I'm looking forward to the new Duet:-).

But come on, we live in a digital world in 2011. Every shappy china-made audio interface toy has a digital I/O today. And for the price of 600$ a professional interface should have this, too. Maybe I'm too demanding... |

Looks great, I listened to the vid through my DUET (1).
I'm sure many will welcome USB2.0 connectivity.
I'm still holding out for MIKE, when is that going to be available?

| REAL 4 outputs?
hmm.
i love it.
i already love mu duet 1
but after every sign "4 outputs" there is headphones note.
is it true 4 outs or just two mirrored with separate volume control?
will those 4 outs b avalible in DAW as "duet2 out 1-2" and "duet2 out 3-4" ???
Makes me wonder also how related these converters are to the converters in symphony?
if 8io is $2000, 2 is $500?
am i looking right at this simple math?
leaves almost $200 for digital pre amp and body.... and how much does the digital preamp costs to manufacture....?
All that being said, al im asking could we possibly be looking @ portable symphony here?

I'm not sure if this is possible, but couldn't you use the built in spdif on all macs as a digital input side by side the duet?

I think it sounds as open and detailed as can be. If it has a fault it's a lack of the "solid" bottom that I hear from the Rosetta series and the new Avid IOs.

Maybe when this hits the shelves the old one still drop in price. I think I'll snag one of those for the firewire alone .
Is that crazy? I feel like apogee should have given us a duet 2 with thunderbolt I/O.

No Digital I/O is a big miss. Many folks need a 2 i/o basically for most tracking, but the ability to use an ADAT I/O along with it is a must for folks that do the occasional Drum Tracking. The Babyface has this. 10 I/O is plenty for most project home studios especially with so many Drum Replacement Plugins on the market.

FWIW, since PT9 allows me to use any interface I've kept my eye on what is available, and this and the MOTU audio express are looking nice for a small portable interface. I think this one is pulling me away from the MOTU. |

this is not for me.
i'm a tad bit disappointed by apogee, they seems more toys-oriented now.
this is far far far away from the spirit that brought the original duet to us. | nothing wrong with USB on a MAC. Never losing data even at 100% CPU.

The reason I wouldn't buy the duet is lack of midi and adat IO.

I kinda want one. Nothing to do with my mastering studio but for my own stuff I like to track in my living room (acoustic guitar mainly, big open room with wood floors, sounds great). Current setup is Okava MK012's (Joly modded)->Duet 1->Macbook->Reaper. I wonder how much better the Duet 2 sounds over the Duet 1. Hmmmmmm, who wants to buy a Duet 1?
