Well I wanted the kit as I assume it would be cheaper, and the company already sells kits of other products. I think it would be a wise move to also sell it as a kit, but i'm nobody to judge on their business tactics.
It's all good i guess.

ah oui,the new stuff,oh lala...

But meanwhile my 4 ez1073's are helping me along quite nicely! Album "The Thousandfold Epicentre" by The Devil's Blood, (lovely 60's/70's hardrock/psycadelia) hit the German top 100 charts at 67, not bad for this type of music at all!
Despite the uncanny(pun intended) amount of tracks, people tend to like the focus and clarity of the production,which involved,amongst others, quite a bit of ez 1073. Happy customer I am,indeed.

Now just waiting for that release notice from AML....

Cheers
Pieter

A little curious..
I didn't like the Gap73, not my cup of tea.
Is this 73-clone similar in sound?

They sound like a vintage 1073;

Is the API VP26 right for me?

AML 500 Series 54F50 Compressor, Anyone?

In the next issue of Tape-op you should find a review by Marc Alan Goodman and Daniel Schlett (Strange Weather Brooklyn)

No idea how it compares to a GAP73.

Thanks Colin!
I'll just have to give some other -73's some listening-time then, to see if the 73 is for me.

I am considering purchasing 2 of the EZ 1073 kits from Collins site. It will be my first DIY project. Do these appear to be a fairly straight forward build? Also, where do you source the metal for the case?

Thank you,

Scott

We no longer offer the 500 series version as a kit.

[There are still a few of the 1U rack version kits available].

As regards what it sounds like;

I'm interested in these, but not before a few weeks/months, other priorities right now.
Can't you order them direct from AML? Should be a lot cheaper : 695£ ex VAT equals a little bit more than 1K€ if my calculations are alright.

you could always snag these off ebay?
do a search on ebay and see what some originals would cost.

Just got a pair of ez1073-500s. Very happy indeed! The EQ is great at adding weight and sparkle.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I ordered my second ez1073 from VK. Should arrive in a few days. Super excited about having a pair of these, can't say enough about 'em. They really are that good!

Just got mine a few days ago. Still learning it's best practices as I don't want to
mess around on paying client's time. Fantastic so far, not the best choice on
every source but when it's right it's perfect. Direct in with my analog modular
sound incredibly heavy. The EQ is just nuts!
With certain vocalists, I quickly switched over to the API 512-c or Purple Biz.
It also seems to pick up a very slight ground hum in my API 10 space rack.
I'm having a tech pal by sometime soon for another studio maintenance round.
