New Recabinet Plugin

Just got this...

Kazrog is proud to announce Recabinet 3, the most significant update yet to the popular guitar and bass speaker cabinet simulator for Mac and PC. Recabinet 3 is an effects plugin for VST, AU, and RTAS formats for Mac OS X and Windows. It offers 20 virtual cabinets, 8 virtual mics, and 2 internal channels with the British-inspired Kazrog Konsole EQ, specifically voiced for making guitar and bass tracks come alive.

Also worth noting assuming I'm reading the site correctly....Recabinet 2 is currently on special at only $15 & upgrade to 3 is $60.

That would be a $65 saving over the new user price of $130.

ohh can't wait to try. It's going to be tough to beat iface as #1 cab emu on my workspace. But I'm still using Recabinet's blackface models, nothing else is sounding better to me...

note - I can't find any info about new speaker cab's... not a lot of detailed info yet. samplerate etc.

Please post back with your findings.

For me, it's buggy as hell in Logic 9 and is an absolute CPU hog. I'm on an eight core dual 2.8 and it's killing it. Can't even think about 128 buffer size.

Seems like this could be pretty darned cool but it's barely working for me.

Anyone else tried the demo in Logic?

Demo-ing in Cubase I noticed the asio meter is very unstable with this in use....most plugs just move it up a notch, some fluctuate a little but this is jumping around quite aggressively...but still spiking to under 10% of my i7-930 at 128 samples.

The drop-outs in the demo are really frequent which makes it tricky to demo it properly while also trying to switch settings & play guitar!

Unable to auth full product in PT 9 at the mo, key file won't take. And PT crashed when I tried to un-instantiate the plug-in from an insert slot.

Support ticket sent with crash log and further details re the auth issue. Hopefully Shane will get me up and running asap.

I dl'd the demo of Reaper and auth'd the AU, which in turn should auth every other format. I'm just about to open a new PT session to see if that has worked. I'll report in a mo.

Re the crash, I'll keep tabs.

Ok guys 'n' gals, Recabinet 3 is now auth'd in PT 9.

Having spoken to support I may have had a corrupt keyfile, though the AU in Reaper showed as fully licensed

Thus, I suggest if any of you have problems with auth'ing in PT you should note it to support and then grab the demo of Reaper to confirm the AU auth'd which in turn will set other formats open.

Cool

First impressions are good. The Top Boost cab sounds like I'd expect... crispy with speaker break up. V.nice.

I'd highly recommend one run this through a desk though, or Slate Digital VCC (which models them). Without it (VCC) I'm missing some of the character of my Strat... the fullness and string definition.

I expect and hope to see tooltips for each control so I know how much I'm boosting/cutting in the next version, and I also hope there will be up and down arrows to navigate the menu's so one doesn't have to keep opening the drop down to change cab/mic.

Just disable the cab in those plug-ins and instantiate Recabinet after them.

Demo working well in Logic 9.13/SL 10.6.6/MacBook Pro i7.

I am the recipient of the insanely! generous 'early adopter' offer but might have messed up the registration/Machine ID so will have to await support's reply to getting it authorized, otherwise looks to be a GREAT way to use the already excellent Recabinet collections and validated/running fine so far (except for the possible 'human error' on my part ;-)

Surprised it's running well in Logic 9. I can't get it to change microphones or change much of anything in a drop down menu. Very strange.

From what I can get of it to work, I do like it.

I usually use Redwirez and I do find these sound a good bit different to me. These have a quicker, sharper, more percussive, biting attack to me... less compressed sounding. Not that that is better but that's my take on the difference between those two thus far.

Massive CPU hog over here as well for some reason.

Wish they worked properly on my rig. Gonna keep messing with it cause I do like it.

Support just got me sorted (and it was indeed my error on Machine ID) and I double checked performance. All drop downs and controls working fine, preset loading fine, and CPU at 2~3 segments in the transport CPU 'led'.

Redwirez?

Anybody compare the sounds you can get out of this to any Redwirez IR's yet?

Ive used Redwirz in the past. I myself always was looking for a way to record my 1/2 stack amp without having to turn it up to insane loudness levels to get a decent tone (at home)

Ive tried.....

Redwirez
Amplitube 3 (just the cab emulation)
some hardware cab sims

At to be brutally honest......i would much rather record my 1/2 stack cab at a lower volume instead of using alternative methods. No impluses/simulators gave me the feel/omph/throw that simply "using a real mic on your cab" can give....even if the amp/cab was recorded at lower bedroom volumes....the REAL THING (mic'd cab) just sounded better to me.

if this Recabinet 3 can give decent results, ill certainly give it a try....but trying so many other 'cab sims' in the past and finding they dont sound/feel real enough.......im a bit hesitant to waste my time trying it.

imho...
redwirez good for certain tones and so is Recabinet.

v2.1 recab was unfortunatly all 44khz ;(( i really wish they'd update their cab's. Haven't been able to find out if what new sample rates are at because the whole (win) download was under 15mb so I'm not sure...

My first impression was same impulses (plus some new ones I think) for the one I tried and compared to the old one was very similar but with improved EQ...

So far redwirez (and and iface) is first choice but the EQ on this is quite nice. This is now re-classified beta version see the forums...

It's been a busy last couple of days since the release. Basically, in a nutshell, our beta team was too small, and we underestimated the amount of platform-specfific problems that could happen despite testing on (what we thought) were 90% or more of software/hardware config categories that would be out there in the wild.

The good news is, none of the bugs fall into the category of "complete mystery" at all, and there's fixes on the way soon. The CPU usage should be very low across the board in the forthcoming 3.0.1 update. Right now, most Mac Intel folks should be very happy with CPU usage that is around 2% even at low latency on laptops. We're working on getting it that way across the board.

The UI menu/responsiveness issues are also going to be addressed in the 3.0.1 update. Tooltip param readouts and other nice UI touches will be added soon as well.

Just so you guys know what to expect, here's a quick rundown of what we've found this week with the help of our users as far as known problem platforms for 3.0.0 (complete with handy emoticon representations):
  • Windows (poor performance on most configs, CPU spikes and angry customers )
  • Ableton Live (heavy CPU usage even when not playing back )
  • Logic 9.1.x in Mac OS 10.5.8 and 10.6.6 (not passing validation and/or crackling/CPU issues - but other Logic 9/8 and MacOS version combos are working great )
  • Digital Performer (forgetful about presets/settings, possibly DP6 only )
  • GarageBand '11 (similar issues to Logic in 10.6.6 )
So, we're on it, we're sorting this out, and we're here to help you guys, whether you're customers or just demoing the product. We're very proud of Recabinet 3, at least how it's supposed to work anyway - and we're committed to fixing the bugs as quickly and completely as possible.

The best way to get support is to use the support link on our website, I don't check this particular forum very often, especially when I'm busy coding. Thanks for the feedback!

Just to add (if you did not get my email)...

with PT9/Win7 on PC....you just get static when you play through the plugin. Totally unusable.

We haven't released the Windows RTAS version yet, so you must be using VST Wrapper. This has not been tested and is not supported. We will be supporting Windows RTAS natively very soon, possibly concurrently with the 3.0.1 update push.
