Vintech 500 series pre with D.I.

Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread to announce that we at Vintech have begun producing a 500 series mic preamp and d.i. The preamp is class A, all discrete, transformer balanced and is based on the 1073 circuit. The unit also features a new discrete high impedance d.i. that goes through the input transformer. The units are hand built in the U.S.A. by us. This unit contains no I.C.'s and no surface mount components and contains three all discrete class A amplifiers as in the original 1073.

I am attaching some photos of a couple of the prototypes. One of the units shown has Marconi knobs. We would like to use this type of knob and are talking to a couple of companies about getting tooling made to do this. Any units that we ship until we can either get the Marconi knobs produced or find a supplier will have our standard machined aluminum knobs.

We ask that anyone interested in beta testing these units please contact us by phone at the number on our website. The beta test units will require a refundable depost of $400 for each module.

We are also planning to do a shootout in Nashville in the next few weeks vs vintage 1073 modules and anyone in the area interested in attending can contact us at 813-982-9026.

Thanks,
Dallas Upton

Very great job!!!!!!!

This thing is going to be great.... I love that the DI goes through the input..... Not a common feature for 500 series preamps..

I also see the transistor that everyone says is missing in the new Neve 1073 LB.....

Great job, and I'm definitely interested in this!!!!!!

It's funny.... Everyone always said a 1073 type pre would never reach the format..... and now there are several!!!!

Vintech is great!!!!

PS... I like the Marconi knobs... Although the Vintech knobs look great on your rack gear..... They may be just a tiny bit too big for these modules.

I have real 1084's and a X73 here, the vintech knobs are far better, more solid. I would go with them, plus they are the look of your whole line.

But I understand if you are going for the original look!

Agreed...... They just seem to overlap the faceplate labeling.... Which is why I thought they were to big...

However, if that writing was made for the Vintech knobs, I'd like them just as much.

Wow, cool.

Owning an x73i, I'd really like to know how similar I could expect one of these to sound to the unit I've already got (minus the EQ of course).

I much prefer the grey output knob to the white one on the right hand picture.
Also prefer the Marconi knobs but wouldn't be a total deal breaker if it's Vintech style.

I dig the Vintech knobs. Are you working on the EQ as well?

Is this unit Mic input only?
I don't see a line level input?

And the plot thickens...

Looking forward to checking the smartly named 573 out!

Well as a DI it's probably expecting a high Z instrument input but would probably work at a pinch but with some impedance mismatching.

Vintech 500 series pre with D.I.

Hey Dallas,

Glad to hear things are great at Vintech. You recorded my band back in 1989-ish on you 8-track outside Tampa. Be cool and can't wait to hear the preamplifier.

At that price they will easily outsell the AMS Neve 500 series pre.

That's just to borrow beta demo units, factory sealed production models won't be selling for nearly that low.

Since the Neve 500 series goes for $995, it would be in Vintech's best interest to keep the price low. If they sold this thing for $499.00, I'm guessing they'd sell a shitload and wouldn't be able to keep this thing in stock.

I highly doubt that Vintech could sustain the pre selling them for $499. Lets be realistic here. That said, it would be nice. Haha. I was thinking more along the lines of $750-$850. Even that seems low though by the looks of this thing.

I agree.

Obviously any company selling an item for 'less' would produce more volume in sales, but its about sustainability for the manufacturer.

Well this is a hand-assembled unit, with no surface-mount components, and it's probably truer to the original 1073 than the AMS Neve 1073LB so I would think the pricing would be similar to the 1073LB. If the brand name wasn't on the 1073LB then I think it would be a couple hundred bucks cheaper.
