| This is one of the most under-rated compressor pluggies out there. Performs great in "the tests" under normal usage too. Brilliant work 112db. Very impressed with the saturation algo too, no crap whatsoever. thumbsup |

| OK, I'm starting to like this plugin. Using the demo right now. Love the saturation in this plugin. I'm in the middle of a demo mix and it's holding the lowend really nice. I'm putting it against the ML4000, very nice.... I post of difference between the 2... Marc

| OK, I just got finished doing a demo to shop to a couple artist (Ciara/Keri Hilson) Same mix but, with an limiter on the end which I do usually to get it loud. This time, I didn't try to get it extremely loud, just around 3.5 to 4 db of compression. Also, a true test for any Limiter is an Hip Hop/R&B song with huge lowend!!! I used all of the compressors the same. 7.0 Threshold and .007 output. I also matched all the audio files to be within .1 db of each other Here are the ones that I used... Let me know which one do you guys like the best. The limiters used were - L3-16, ML4000, Big Blue and the Massey L2007. Mind you, these were all dithered down to 192 mp3's. Also, there are tags in the song, not trying to promote, just making sure song isn't bounced around the internet. Marc |

Actually I prefer the 1st version. More "in your face", more "alive" than the other 3. Which limiter is that 1st version ? That said, I must admit that I don't like the drums fill/break around 1:40-1:43. Thinking like "oh no, what's going on here ?!". And what about the hi-hat at 00:46 which is at the start and end of the chorus, too agressive to my ears and too short IMHO. I would have chosen a crash cymbal or open hi-hat. Also don't like the way the girl is kicking starting at 1:57. Sounds dull and too compressed compared to the girl that sing. By the way, there are some strange panning "issues" between the 4 versions. For example, at 1:30 the kind of synth sound that follows the "think is gotta" is panned left in the 1st version, whereas it's panned right in the 3rd version, and sounds even panned more to right in the the 2nd and 4th version. Just my thoughts man. Overall, it sounds real good, well done

I've used a few in the past and currently my fav seems to be the Sonnox Limiter. I'm definitely interested to see what the reactions are about this one. Recently tried out the Redline Reverb plugin and that one rocks. Had a lot of positive responses over on KVR where I hear about it.

| I swear, the only bwl's I can bear to put on the 2-buss are Izotope, Elephant, Loudmax, GClip or my AD. Everything else I've heard, including Sonnox, Waves L2/3 & Sonalksis and gang, just f*cks the sound up far too much, even at 96k. You might be able to get a louder master with it - if the tonal balance is off (!), but if that's on point then... I used to use the Sonnox, until the artefacts became so abundantly obvious that I just couldn't do it anymore. Xenon, robs the transients blind if pushed too much, but sounds extremely transparent for the odd peak here n there. YMMV, of course ![]() |

| what's the knee and release settings for the Big Blue? I found that they make a ton of difference on the Big Blue. |

| The knee settings were 30. Same on the ML4000. The L3-16 is in Analog Warmth mode and I'm sure it's probably around the same setting. The Massey L2007 doesn't have that type of setting. K-Slash, thanx for the compliment. Cool song. I did the music and the singer did the lyric and melody. I'll check the compressor settings on the Rapper (2nd girl) as I don't think I over compressed her. I'll check the panning issue as well but, they should be the exact same. Maybe the limiter is doing something to the song. So, which one do you guys thing sounds better? Marc |

| Mr Illusive, I'm just using it on the Master. Other compression on the Busses/Channels. ------------------------------ Surbitone, I have and use the Ozone 4 and I love it but not the Limiter. Seems to take the transits out of the snr's if pushed too hard. I've tried it on different songs and still the same thing. I do love it for it's dithering, EQ, it's spreader among other things when needed. Great plugin. I'm going to put it in the car to see if I hear the color I hear in the studio with the Big Blue. Nice Job.... Might have to pick this one up. Marc |

better than any GR on the Sonnox. I used to prefer to the Sonnox over Izotope & Elephant, but my tastes have changed drastically, as has my internal tonal balance . ![]()

| I've been playing with the 60-day Big Blue Trial. Love it like crazy on bass guitar; in tandem with a compressor, I can't believe that "wool sweater just came out of the dryer" feel to the bass. The GR on this thing really works well to dial down any big notes before your choice of comp. The "drive" effect is spectacular on lows. Been playing with just using the saturation (threshold all the way up, no GR - but you do hear it even without the gain). Fooled around with some scratch tracks from a female vocalist; we'd just thrown a 57 up for her to lay down a guide vocal while she played guitar - kind of a shrill track. The Big Blue's soft grit made the track really sing - sounded like I had a much nicer chain on her voice, very lush; can't wait to get a good mic on her for real. One of those things you really "hear" when solo'd, but in the mix? It's subtle but crazy-useful, esp. considering you only get a "drive" knob, no tweaking how it responds to tonal regions (like RedLine Pre), no control over which harmonics get boosted (like TwinTube). I still love TwinTube for some of that ethereal sparkle, and decapitator does some amazing things - but for $99, the "drive" knob alone on this baby is a steal. Anxiously awaiting SoundToys upcoming preamp plugin - after years of trying EQs and reverbs, I'm finding the analog-dirt plugins to be by far the most effective things for me in moderation. |
