It looks like they added recording now directly in Reason. Unless I am seeing this wrong. See about halfway in to the video. Very exciting.

That looks like record to me, not reason.

Apparently they will be releasing 5 new features in the next 5 days. Seeing that two features have already been released, we will find out what the next 3 features are in the following days.

I think the Dr. Octo Rex is a pretty cool enhancement and the blocks function on the sequencer looks kind of neat. Unless they come out with a new synth or some other real instrument, I don't think I will be upgrading.

Hopefully, the last feature they release will be the big announcement of a new instrument. We will find out in the next few days!

Hmmm

Yeah, so far they have been showing improvement to the workflow. Not necessarily what we couldn't already do, just ways to consolidate the information. Wonder if they have a *killer feature*. One that would make potential converts go hmmmm, I NEED that to compose...

They have said frequently that it will never happen. Reason IS a plugin to them, and record is meant to be entirely self-contained.

That I do know. Sadly that is the one reason why I do not think I will purchase Record.

The two founders are interviewed in this month's issue of Tape Op confirming the very same. I understand the rationale from a development standpoint, but it's just not practical for me -- and I'm assuming a lot of mes like me -- from a music production standpoint.

But record sure does look nice.

reason 5 = another boring usb proprietary dongle ?

please props don't be dumbass, usb dongle are just expensive and useless,

i don't want it and i don't want to be connected to the web to run reason,

i just want to play with the tools i pay for, i don't pay to support paranoid behavior,

be smarter than the others, show us how clever you are ...

... or not

I agree with you on this, but software copy protection is just a pain in the ass. Syncrosoft or iLok is so much easier when you have 4 production machines to deal with and maintain.

I would like VST support as well. Not upgrading if they don't come up with some awesome features. This is ok so far, but just MEH...

At the end of feature 5 or something, it would be really funny and awesome if they said: Oh yeah, we added VST support, sample editor, etc. etc. ... Reason is now a full-featured DAW - you can switch! It's got everything you smug engineers need (from their Re-Cord video) and more.

Is that too much for the people at Proppellerhead?

As a joke:
Ha ha.
Maybe they implement a knob for the console: SSL, API, NEVE, TRANSPARENT, etc. (for the sound you want) and it should really sound like that.
Maybe in like 10-20 years or so... Reason 6 ha ha ha (cause they move so slow with the releases).

Cheers!

They won't do VST in Reason or Record because their Rewire protocol was supposed to be what VST is today. Read up on the history between Steinberg and Propellerheads.

Basically they have a giant chip on their shoulder, kind of like Apple.

Please note there was a period between my sentences, not a 'because'.

Actually Rewire was meant to complement VST, that's why Steinberg were quick to support it. At the time Steinberg were Propellerhead's official distributor for their products.

blocks???????

really blocks?????????

wha???????

i'm sorry guys. i just don't see this being useful. it's really no different then cut and paste. the presentation has a lullaby feel to it. "go to sleep little sameal, reason will do the work for you!" bullshit!

at least they allow me to turn it off. thank god.

at least the dr. octorex looks like a real usable tool. a big improvement.

fun stuff.

I used reason 2.0 ages ago, then eventually went on to full featured daws and other VIs and never really used it again. I don't know if its nostalgia but I'd love to spend some time with the new reason/record. I just have a hard time spending $500 on nostalgia when I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with what I'm already using...

i guess neptune is in high demand in the R&B scene. a lot of people will buy record just for this. i'm more interested in what it can do to sax or trumpet.
