midipad - multitouch midicontroller for the ipad

Hi everyone,

just wanted to point you to our new iPad app that is soon going to be released.

As the topic of using the iPad as a MIDI-controller came up here at gearslutz several times, I thought that you might find this interesting:

www.midipad.de

Best regards,
Tobias

Looks very cool. All together, I hope the iPad turns out to be a valuable asset in my studio. I would NEVER have paid the 2k+ a Lamer costs when I touched the screen of it. Now it looks like my waiting will pay off...

some competition for TouchOSC !

TouchOSC is great but little softwares use OSC. you have to use a OSC to MIDI thing, configure it and all ...

i have to say i prefer the colour scheme of TouchOSC though, more "Lemur" like. will it be possible to change colors or have a black background ?

what about the price ?

all the best !

Color & sizes are principially freely configurable. Could be that the first
version will have fixed colors, but we are planning on continually adding functionality...

It has not been set yet, but we will announce it as soon as possible on the website...

One question, since I have the chance to speak directly with a developer:
why not make an application that remotes DAW shortcuts?
I'd like to have my iPad able to control all my daw keyboard commands, in a smart way.
You only need to make a replica of the computer keyboard, and then you would be able to re-label it. In this way it would be fully compatible with all Daws, without even need to recode it in someway.

Loads on my iPhone, but does not load on my MacBook Pro or my Mac Pro desktop tower, OSX10.6.2, safari 4.0.5

Just sits and freezes.

Strange!

thumbsup +1
With Macro commands like the MC Mix, the 10 inch screen would be perfect for that.

OK, Safari issues seem to be fixed. Page now loads.

Looks VERY much like it's designed for Ableton Live.

Well our main aim is to create a virtual MIDI-controller and not a virtual keyboard controller... but possibly something to keep in mind for the future...

Looks like it is a virtual Mackie Control - this will definately not be a problem to implement.

The difference between our product and everything else currently on the market for the iPhone is that fact, that you don't need to install anything on the Mac to connect our app with the DAW-application, since we support the native Apple network-MIDI protocol including the Bonjour service-discovery - so just plug & play.

For Windows we have developed our own (Apple-compatible) network MIDI-driver that can be used to either connect to midipad or to a Mac - so in fact that driver would render solutions like Midi-over-lan unnecessary.

might i make a suggestion?

Since the iPad is kind of small and 'faders' take up a lot of vertical screen space...It would be cool if you had rows of buttons about the size of a finger tip, that when you touch would revel a fader.

It is cool to have a tactile control over faders and knobs, but why not tap into it and utilize the ability to hide and show controls and morphing...all from one 1024-by-768 page.

Sure Mackie Control implementation is a huge deal breaker. Every modern controller should have it by default.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait and try the product on my system to decide whether it'll satisfy my needs.

I do appreciate that you answered my query.thumbsup

Unless I'm misreading your intention, I think you might be misusing the idiomatic expression "huge deal breaker."

A deal breaker is not a positive thing.

Not trying to embarrass, just trying to clarify.

TO DEV

out of curiosity, will it possible to connect more than I-pad running this app to control one system.

this way each one could be set to control different aspects in logic, arrange, mixer, etc

@ SilverSonya

What I intended to say is that not implementing Mcu protocol would be a big downer.
Sorry if I wasn't clear.
