Hell yes...they sound incredible. Wow.

So all you need to do is download the free version of Kontakt and you're good to go with these?

The drum room sound is awesome too.

toms/snare sound great... crashes still sound like your normal sampled mess...

anyone know how many layer's of "open-ness" you can get on the high hats?

I like that they are going for a specific and unique sound rather than trying to record your typical pristine drum recording. IMO that's where drum samples are weakest. I'd rather have character to work with, it makes it easy for the samples to sound real.

I'm pretty sure the free version of Kontakt is really just a demo that times out eventually with an option to buy.

All you need to use Abbey Road 60s Drums is the free Kontakt 4 Player.

The free version - the Kontakt 4 Player - is basically a playback only version of Kontakt 4. The full editing and sample import features of Kontakt 4 are in the Player as time limited "demo" features.

Kontakt Player FAQ

They have the 60s Drums manual on the product page to download for details on articulations and such.

My download of part 1 stopped at 2.06 GB - I have emailed their tech support but I don't know that they will get back to me till tomorrow. Can anyone verify how large part 1 is supposed to be? I am pretty sure it is supposed to be over 3GB, and mine won't unzip so there is something wrong. When I click on the re-download link I get directed to an "internal server error" page. Dammit.

There's always something wrong with NI software.
They're stuff never installs and works first time...
Has anybody actually downloaded, installed and used these drums and listened to them in a mix first time?
Online demos are easy to make sound good.....

My first experience with NI was to install Komplete 5 and then update via their site and everything worked perfectly. Saying 'there's always something wrong with Ni software' and it never installs and works first time is simply not true obviously.

I too have had positive experiences in the last year or two with downloading NI products. Can you tell us specifically what problems you've had in the past?

I'm a happy NI user as well. Got Komplete 6, Kore 2 (+several korepacks) and Maschine. Haven't ran into any problems.

The demos of these samples sound absolutely gorgeous

The thing I don't like about it is that it's a kontakt only product. Aren't Battery and Machine supposed to be their "Drum" products

Machine obviously isn't directly aimed at making realistic drum performances, but I wouldn't mind having some of those samples and midi grooves in my Maschine library. The R&B and Motown demos could really fit into Maschine's library.

More importantly, Where does all this leave Battery? It isn't part of Kore, like Kontakt and the synths are, and now Kontakt is also becoming the main platform for drum based expansion packs. Is Battery becoming EOL?

+1 for me with no problems with NI stuff... just upgraded to Komplete 6 from kontakt and it worked like a charm.

concerning the why not battery question... to me kontakt is a more sophisticated environment to do the heavy/complex sample libraries. With the multiple samples, round robin, multi mic stuff that this library has... I didn't think battery was capable of that. I personally think of battery as more of a drum machine type drum program where you have 1 snare sample, 1 kick... etc. I know this isn't necessarily the case, but it seems like that is the best way to use battery.

just my thought about it. and I think you're right... battery is becoming a bit obsolete...

I'm sure it's just me then....
I have NI products...Komplete, Kore and I bought a couple soundpaks....personally don't think they sound all that good for the money and because I seemed to always have problems with they're stuff and a lot of problems with installing them and got very poor support, I've just let it go and decided to learn from my mistake and look for better products.
Call me a dissatisfied customer!
Still have it on my system, still get their newsletters like this new Abbey Road drums soundpak, but this just reinforces my resolve to say no and I won't even consider any more of their software....
If you enjoy the sounds they produce and think they help you make music and have no problems with the massive software hey great! To me they just sound a bit canned....haven't heard anything in they're stuff that's all that great or impresses me! and I rarely recommend using the sounds.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about!!
Not for me anymore.....ya tomorrow maybe they'll get back to you!
And how much money does NI have of yours?
For the money you've blown on this "stuff" you should get a robust perfect piece of software that works perfectly each and every time and that just isn't happening here folks!
We all expect this sort of thing from this software crap and I say don't take it anymore.....they just want the money and they don't really care if you have to re-install it 5 times....
Dammit is a nice word if you ask me!

Has anyone who has downloaded these figured out whether the "tea towel" samples were used? The video says they even "tried" the tea towel thing, but the limited time I spent listening to the demos didn't sound like they were in there.

Thanks

I guess I'm crazy, but I think these sound crappy. I listened to all the demos, and yuck...it sounds like a slightly better version of Motown Drummer in GarageBand...certainly not vintage Club Date, Slingerland, Gretsch, or the like.

Hi feck,

The part 1 Zip file is 3.79 GB. Are you speaking of the "re-downlaod" link that was emailed to you?
