Toys from SoundToys

Decapitator is now in our new Public Beta program. Go sign up and use Decapitator through the Holidays for free. We're not quite ready for the full release but we wanted to get it in your hands as soon as we could, so...
Go to SoundToys - Happy Holidays! and the new splash screen will take you to the Decapitator page (Where you can read cool things about it), click the Public Beta link below the screenshot or the red one in the right upper corner, and off you go into the warm embrace of Decapitator.

BTW: You heard it here first all you lovely GearSlutz types.

Happy Holidays from the SoundToys Team.

Trying it out on the mix bus...

'N' style 75% wet with drive in the range of 1-4 is doing a wonderful job neutralizing the digital highs of my ITB mix.

'E' style doing equally impressive things on the mix bus, but a much different flavor.

It would be nice to see input/output level controls on the final version.

Overall it's so far sounding like a virtual box of goodness.

Just got in from dinner and saw this on the other thread. Here's the deal:

For SOME reason, the Decapitator installer adds a whole slew of custom waveshapes into the Library:Application Support:SoundToys:WaveShapes folder. The problem is that the new shapes are kept in subfolders, which our released plug-ins obviously can't handle very well.

The work-around: Navigate to Library:Application Support:SoundToys:WaveShapes and delete all subfolders located there.

We didn't catch this one because we and all of our beta testers are running a newer version of all of our plug-ins, and the installer for Decapitator inadvertently included some waveshape data destined for the new PanMan plug-in.

SORRY! We will post a fix tomorrow, but the work-around should suffice for tonight.

Let's hear some clips!

I'm giving this one a miss because I can't bear the thought of losing functionality from the current bundle!

Wowse !
Brilliant Plugin, by far the best sounding distortion plugin with mucho mojo !
Thanks for this.

I also had the installation problem but after taking out the subfolders, as Ken described everything worked fine.

One thingy: I noticed a problem with latency compensation when I threw it on a send/bus in Logic 8.

You have a buyer here

We've just posted a new installer, so there should be no more worries about your existing SoundToys plug-ins. Thanks to all the early downloaders for helping us sort this out, and for all the great feedback so far!

So the problem that's fixed with the new installer only affects Mac users?

This thing sounds incredible. You guys have done it again. This fills not only a void in your own suite, but a void in the world of processing.

Thanks.

Yes, in my limited tests on vocals just now this thing is great. Trumps the bootsy stuff I was using before by a mile.

Just wanted to report that I got very sluggish behavior as soon as I loaded up an instance of the plug-in. The entire system started to lag, and the VU meter on the UI was equally as slow.

My system specs are:

i7 920
ASUS P6T
Nvidia GTX275
6gb RAM

Software is:

Cubase 5.1.1 32-bit

All my hardware drivers are at their latest.

Hey, thanks for the report. Just want to clarify this. Are you trying to save using our built-in preset manager, or your host app's? What platform, Pro Tools, Logic, Mac, PC?

Thanks.

Just tried it for a couple minutes. Sounds great on various sources.
I was never too impressed with saturation so far. But this one delivers
great tones from subtle to pretty fvcked up. Great work!

I really like the new preset manager.

As i read that your (non public) beta testers also tested updates of the
*old* plugs, is it safe to assume that you will update these with the new
preset manager as well? Now THAT would be awesome!

And as i am writing here i would like to adress one tiny little thing i would love to see improved: the knob ballistics.

Esp with critical things like delaytimes or chrystallizers pitch adjustment,
dialing in specific numbers is hard here on XPsp3 in Live. The knobs move just a tiny little bit too fast.
Entering numbers via numblock does not work here.
And holding down the Windows key always opens the startmenu.

Is it possible to map the finecontrol to the shift key instead?
Or even adjust the whole ballistics for smoother operation?

Anyways.. Thanks for your great sounding toys!

Exact same sluggish behaviour.

Hmmn. Wish I could figure out how to get less low and low-mid thickness and more of what it's doing to the highs. Using the filters with the mix knob can get phasey.

Gotta spend more time with it. This is a move forward for analog simulation, I believe. It's organic, responsive, not superimposed. The mix knob is a great feature.

L

Two things wrong in Sonar x64
1) The valve type buttons don't light up, so you have no idea whether it's 'taken' or not, and no confirmation of what's working.

2) Automation doesn't work. It writes but doesn't playback or bounce. This is stupid. It's a known issue in the Native Bundle and Soundtoys have refused to address it for over six months. "The issue is quite involved and will take a considerable number of cycles from one of our programmers so it will not be anytime soon." says Mitch.

Now it appears that they've built a new plugin on the same architecture that's already known to fail in 64bit hosts. My bet is the Autopanner will live down to the same expectations.

Compare this attitude to other VST developers like Spectrasonics, Softube, Camel, PSP, NI, EWQL Synthogy and Voxengo (a one man outfit) and it's easy to see who really cares about the userbase.

Sorry, Mitch.
