| That's right. It runs on Win 7 64, but Pro Tools itself is not 64 bit.

| No longer supports the original MBox. Which I knew was coming, but You would think they would cut support when a completely new version, i.e. 8.3 or 8.5 or something, came out. |

| Gear interested | **** dammit! Now with my MBox I have to choose between PTLE 8.0.1 or PTLE 8.0.3 for working within Win7????? this is so stupid!! There's nothing wrong with the MBOX!! Dammit digidesign, cut us some slack. We know you're hurting from the recession but jeez! I was NOT looking forward to buying an MBox2 product cuz they look MORE like toys. How about keeping with rack-mountable interfaces?

| I'm interested in knowing if someone has upgraded from 8.0.1 to 8.0.3 on an Intel-Mac. Was the result better or worse? Essentially is it more stable? For whatever reason on my system, PT will freeze during the opening splash screen about 50% of the time but runs fine otherwise. |

| It is not solely a positive experience so far.. And I think I almost sense sarcasm on the digidesign download page ? Or is it just me? |

| YES! Finally you don't have to unmount drives through Pro Tools, and FINALLY you can get rid of the STUPID ability to double tap the tool shortcut buttons (i.e. the trim function). I've almost sold my system several times because I got so pissed and tired of toggling F6 all the f****ng time. |

I wasn't aware until a couple of hours ago that PT 8.0.3 works on BOTH Leopard and Snow Leopard. I backed up my main drive and installed 8.0.3 on my 10.5.8 system and so far it actually works better..... well specifically, it doesn't hang like it used to when on the opening splash screen. It actually loads all the plugins with no issues! I admit, I've only tried it a couple of times. I'm glad they made PT 8.0.3 to work with both systems!

It worked well for about a day, then it started acting up. We spent hours checking other potential culprits in and outside of the computer but everything else is working perfectly. The computer is less than a month old. We're going back to 8.0.1 Monday.

| I think I will stick with 8.0.1 until Digidesign releases the first CS update for 8.0.3. |

| Well although I grabbed the update, I'm going to wait this one out for now. I also see they say not to install the update if you purchased PT 8 as a download only, and that they will be dropping a special installer into your account. I've yet to see this other installer appear in the downloads section of my Digi account. |

I must say that maybe it is just my system, but this is the best, most stable version of PT that I have ever used (8.0.3 on Leopard 10.5.8. After around 6 total hours of mixing and tracking, I have not seen any issues or errors of any kind. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

| Jesus. Its happened already. PPC mac's are now cut-off by Digidesign. From Digidesigns site: "An Intel-based Mac is required. PowerPC-based Macs are not compatible with Pro Tools 8.0.3. Please read the EOSS (End of Software Support) Announcements for more information." |

Apple discontinued the Power Mac G5 — the last computer to feature a PowerPC processor — more than three years ago. Further, Apple's Snow Leopard operating system will also eliminate support for PowerPC. Avid believes this will further accelerate the retirement of G5 and earlier machines for audio work. Then maybe it's been hurting apple a lot longer, lol. Even though apple's profits say otherwise

| I really don't understand everyones surprise about PPC support going away. If your a company (big or small) you have to consider dropping support for things that are no longer current technologies and platforms. It just doesn't make sense to maintain when you consider how many platforms you as a company would have to support. Where is the cutoff? I think in this case, Apple made the decision for all of us. For those who are angry about it – you're obviously still on PPC so i understand the frustration, it is no fun to be in the club that is left behind. But i have always said that too many people are more obsessed with being up to date with the bleeding-edge than getting work done. We've all had the itch to update and get the hot new thing, but more times than not you will end up with some growing pain problem and you will most likely wish you would have stayed put. In this particular case, the course of action seems quite clear. If you are on PPC, love it or leave it – this is not Avid telling you this – it's Apple. That said, take the opportunity to assess whether or not your PPC system is adequate for the work you do. If it is – then accept that your system is what it is forever (just like the analog gear you own with all of its imperfections and quirks). Or join the rest of us with newer machines who have to make a business decision of whether to risk downtime caused by constantly upgrading. I for one will stay put for a while because i am mid-project right now so why in gods name would i upgrade? Too many times i read threads like this on gearslutz where some would have you believe that the sky is falling and these decisions are designed to screw us all over but as a business person i completely understand this decision. It's as if people really place no value on software development and how difficult it must be to maintain it. Obviously the nature of software VS hardware dictates that we think about it differently in terms of buying something that is upgradable VS fixed but to that end you also must admit/accept that these things cost dearly to maintain so when a company charges for an upgrade or discontinues something there has to be major financial implications as to why. Just consider your own business – if you do the work, you want to get paid – don't you? Sorry for the rant, let the me-bashing begin – ![]() |
