| I was looking at it and wondering for a long time how you're supposed to HOLD the mic in a stand.... Cupholder? Amazon.com: Swirlygig Microphone Stand Drink Holder: Musical Instruments Baffled...

| Cool mic.. I'd love to hear one. Stayne's Mag Mic sounds absolutely unreal.. My new goto mic.... And the Atomic Squeezebox is off the charts - from another planet... And I mean that in a very good way... If those two are any indication of the quality of the gefell retrofit, and based on Stayne's track record, I'm jonesin' to hear one of these! Would love to know the price... |

| Lives for gear | similar to the u87 tube retrofit.... . .this is a new body that can be used as a tube/transformer electronics that will drive the m7 capsule (or whatever cap) supplied with the um70. it basically turns the um70 into a tube mic!!!!!!!!!! |

| So I just went over to Stayne's website to check out this mic...which I found. It looks very interesting. However, I also noticed that he has a sale going on. 50% off! I don't remember him doing this before. Has anyone heard the mic-robrew yet? I've heard and used a Mag Mic before, and yeah, it is rediculously good. I would think that this one SUDS every bit as good. ![]() |

| Dumb question. But why would anyone buy this instead of a M92.1 ![]() Yeah, I know, it's for people who already own a 71, but still....

Completely different amplifier circuit than the MTG UM/M92.1.

I guess I'm old and crabby, but at $2,000 all you get is yet another cute mic. The sound would absolutely blow me away for this to be worth it, and how can you tell? You pretty much have to buy it to find out. My biggest complaint with the UM70 is that when I put it in front of singers they don't take it seriously. It looks like a little lollipop. I don't see how this mod fixes that image problem at all. It could make it worse. "That's funny. Now bring me a real mic." Yeah, yeah, like I said, maybe I'm getting old and crabby. Jasper | |

| At 2000$ you could pay someone to build you a nice tube mic with a KK87 capsule such as beezneez or JJ audio.

| An M7 capsule with a mediocre amplifier sounds like a mediocre mic while a M7 with a great amplifier circuit can sound like $1M. Would love to hear this. |

| Not yet. Was thinking about it until I realized that their 50% off was really just 25% off if you buy 2 of them. Too pricey for me right now. Actually, I TOTALLY dig the way the UM70/M71 sounds right now with the MTG pre/body. I'm sure the tube version sounds great, but I dig FET mics, so this went from a must have to a "maybe someday" purchase when I have more money than needs. |

| i actually have a pair of what i think are prototype mics of these where the tube amp is built into the normal gefell body and it uses an innertube u87 power supply..... not sure how close these are to the current production model. i would describe these mics as "refined" and "silky" but the silk to me sounds up high not in the (laid back) mid range...... i get great results as a main pair but i usually prefer the sf-24 for that (jazz music) for the thick bottom end. edit: Just used them on a jazz trio with nice results... Very accurate and wonderful sounding. |
