is it possible that the reviewer didn't even mention which body he used? is the body really that unimportant?

Will this fit on a AKG 451 ?

I did laugh reading the review though, the reviewer says:

"But it is frustrating to know that you are also paying more simply for the brand name and in some cases the vintage of the mic, which implies a certain quality"

Then goes on to say:

" the MJE-K47H, which is modeled after the capsule used in the venerable Neumann U 47"

LOL .... it's like we're all Homer Simpson.Duh.

made me laugh.

I was wondering about the 451 as well but looked it up and it is only a 15mm capsule (the joly requires a 22mm) I know Chameleon labs make an adapter to use AKG Caps with their TS-1 sdc but couldn't find a spec for the dimensions of the TS-1 (even downloaded the manual for it) - anyone know the size of the TS-1? The picture of the ADP adapter definitely has a slight taper so I'm hoping the TS-1 is 22 and the adapter converts it to 15 thus I could get this then have a lovely selection of capsules/bodies sdc, ldc, tube, fet...

451 > CK-1
451 > chameleon labs adapter > MJE-K47H
TS-1 > MJE-K47H
TS-1 > adapter > CK-1...

yeah, i have 3 451eb's and was wondering this as well...

it would be so great if these would fit an sdc tube, as i feel i would use this mic more with a tube body....

some other options that may be 22

the mojave ma100
the lauten torches...

however, i really hope the chameleons work,,, then i would have interchangebles with 451's ts1's and mje 47 heads.

The circuits in all of these mics are the same. Naturally the results are going to be better (more extended bass, faster transient response, lower distortion and noise, smoother top end) if the body used has undergone an upgrade such as my Premium Electronics mod. If an SDC body is going to be used exclusively with the MJE-K47H capsule its not necessary to do the "Ultimate SDC Mod" I offer as the acoustic modifications to the body do affect the sound of the MJE-K47.

But for SDC / LDC versatility, an MXL 603 (for example) with the "Ultimate SDC Mod" will provide the best sound with both capsule diaphragm sizes.

He should have mentioned this in the review.

Mje-k47h

Hi Michael,

Just read your post about ribbon sag and followed the link to your site.

Great stuff!

I have a pair of Gefell 682 misc. Would your capsules fit on these?
Looks a lot like UM71 from a distance .

'best,

Dusan

Hi (over) there !
Just watched the video ... wow ... incredible how close it sound compared to the Neumann 47 ! congrat for your work !
BTW, the 414 was particulary "washed" or what ? sounded quite horrible to my ears ... they are normaly better than that closer to the 87 , no ?

EDIT : maybe the wrong thread ... will post in the last one ... sorry....

generally speaking I find a 414 to sound nothing like an 87. 87 usually has more mid-body while 414's are generally thinner-sounding w/ more topend (ime).

i liek the clips MJ, will have to check out the capsules!

in the clips there is no top end on this 414 ... that is why I've asked ...
by close to the 87 I ment in overall quality ...

I'm chomping at the bit to find some loot to try these!
Shelling out many thousands for Blue or old Neumann bayonettes?
These seem capable of holding their own.

Congrats Michael!
These look like a winner to me.

my thought exactly!!!!!!!!!

but im thinking you can mix and match.... im hopping the k47h fits the chameleon ts1, which also has an adapter for ck1, because i have 3 451eb's all with ck1's....

this way i could interchange between: blue bottle, akg 451eb's, chameleon ts1's, joly k47h's, bottle caps blue and red.

and if i can afford them, eventually i'll get vintage neumann rft bottle, cmv563's, and blue bottle rockets....

thats all sorts of tube/transformer/solid state ldc and sdc's

im excited for what michael joly is bringing to the table in the recording industry, he is such an asset for engineers like me who seek the best quality without going bankrupt.

My MJE-K47H does not fit the Chameleon TS1 - it has a different body size and contact design. But I am working on a version of the capsule head to fit the Mojave Audio MA-100 tube SDC body. The present MJE-K47H capsule head fits22mm SDC mics with model numbers: 603/604, 991, CM-54, CM-90, 1200, 180/185, 404, v67n and SC-1.

No, that is a medium diaphragm mic with a unique mounting quite distinct from the MXL 603 etc 22mm SDC mics my MJE-K47H capsule head fits.
