Awesome, too bad I'm broke. Those EQ's are on my list for a pair when I can afford them. Then I'd have to get a new rack too, my lunchbox overfloweth.

Gee Chad, great ears hear alike I guess!

That's why I've been raving about these things for the last 6 years!

Also quite a few top notch producers and engineers have bought enough of the originals off me to make think I should have started reproducing these puppies instead of letting Ken take the name and manufacturing... who knew (well I guess I did).

Great product, great build, great sound!

Oh and the whole 500 series thing that all these manufactures do now was an idea I had years ago. At Tape-Op N/O 6 years ago I talked about bringing these Electrodyne and Q8 back in 500 series racks to everybody (so as to not have to reinvent the wheel on the power supply). A year or two later all the guys I talked to started releasing 500 series products... imagine that.

quick question from a technically challenged amatuer: Why are EQ's in 500 format always a bit more expensive than pre's? Is there more stuff inside them? (not dissing the price or whatever, just curious...)

on a very simplistic view, a pre is an amplifier...an eq can have an amplifier as well as part of its way of working (passive vs. active), plus something else inside as well (the actual eq circuitry)...

price will also depend on the complexity of the eq in question.

Curt is a riot & one hell of a player -- you should have fun with him and the Electrodynes Did some sessions with him - he sent the assist out for 13 DOZEN Krispy Kremes (for like 4 or 5 of us!).

Hi Tony,

Nice old API that those are sitting on! These 501's will smoke on drums, of course when you are starting with a great great drummer...

I use an Electrodyne E802 rack for kick and snare, sometimes I use all 8 channels sub-mixed to stereo (when I want to be brave). They kill on kick and snare! Replaced the 1073's!

Do you happen to know a drummer named Dorian Crozier (Wook) as well. His an old childhood friend.

best regards,
Larry

We had a great time tracking the drums. The 501's sound amazing. Especially the bottom end of the pre is rich and full.

I don't know Dorian Crozier. Is he here in LA?

As promised, here are the Electrodyne 501 mic pres on everything but the overheads. On the overheads are the A Designs P1.
The bottom end of the 501's sounds really good. Very big and open, but firm and solid.
And playing drums is the incomparable Curt Bisquera, all recorded at Stagg Street Studio. I have another 4 sound files to post... soon.

The low end rivals the Neve's!

Yeah, Dorian does a lot of work in LA, he's one of the drummers on Ocean Way drums. He was in Five For Fighting for a while and The Rembrandts for about 6 years, etc...

Just wondering, it's a small industry and he has one hell of a drum studio set up built into his house in the Hollywood hills... The Vibatorium...

Sorry to go off topic everybody... back to the fine Electrodyne...

Guessing you mean "tater," as in potato, but that did really make me laugh out loud!

BTW, I have relatives that are truckers, one with the last name Tate, whose CB handle is "Tater Chip."

Okay... carry on.

Five for fighting "Superman". The drummer in this song is fantastic. My best piece of drum in a pop song. Fantastic!

Are Dorian Crozier ? Or Robert Medici ?
