Congrats, Harvey. What's the estimated street price for a pair?

Thank you; I'm pretty damn proud of them.

Not sure of the street price yet, but they're talking about $3,500 MSRP for the flat black finish and $4,000 for the Piano Gloss Black finish.

Let's not get locked into the price. It may come in much higher. Building in the USA is not cheap....

Alan and Harvey, if you're still in the process of manufacturing, perhaps how about an option to have that big white name/logo for the side instead of smack on the forehead...?

For me, that's drawing away the amazing look/feel of the design.

Derek at PMI will probably be doing the final graphics on the name plate, so I'll suggest it to him; it's a bit bold for my taste as well.

And Alan is right, of course. We still don't have a handle on what these are gonna cost to build in the US and the UK. When I designed these, I wasn't thinking about price - it was all about making the finest near field monitor I could, regardless of price. I tried to think of everything I didn't like about near fields and figure out how I could overcome or reduce the problems inherent in small boxes.

At AES, we played classical, rap/hip-hop, country, jazz, pop, metal, rock, solo piano, and any CD's people brought into the booth. Not one single negative comment. Chuck Ainlay echoed Ed Cherney's comment about the HG3's: "I could actually mix on these!" To me, that's very high praise indeed, especially coming from those guys.

I know Bruce Swedien wants to hear them, and I plan to show a pair to George Massenburg. You just don't show any of these people stuff unless you're sure it's as good as you can make it.

So far, so good.

We were thinking that the plate would be recessed into the wood. Maybe just the Trident logo and all the rest of the details on the back.... Concept ideas for the tag are being done now. The ones at the show were just for display.

I think everyone knows you designed them, and the model number would be on the back. This way the front stays clean which seems to be what the customers want....

They are still the HG3's.... What I do want to mention is that while Harvey did design these speakers, we had a team of guys who helped make it all possible. Russ Allee who did the amplifier, and Brent Casey who hand built these and did the new hardware for the mid module rotation design. Justin Hyatt, Barry Stone, and Jarrod Hyatt also put countless hours in to get these done.

As for me, well, on this one...all I did was sit back and watch...but the idea of a studio monitor in the Trident line was my idea. When I got that, the first guy I went to was Harvey!

Harvey did bring me what I asked for but I have to acknowledge the others who helped get it to where it is now.

Alan, you're right; while I did talk about Russ and Brent major efforts, I should have mentioned the considerable contributions made by Justin, Barry, Jarrod, and Derek. And of course, you, who made it happen, right from the start.

But she couldn't pick up the phone? Well, Angie, Rhona Mitra, and Nicole Kidman are off my Christmas card list. I even offered to drive them to the show.

Subject: Trident HG3 Monitors selected as AES Hit!

Mix has been reporting on major audio/music tradeshows for more
than 30 years, and we like to acknowledge some of the more innovative
products we’ve found at these events. This year, Trident’s HG3 monitors
were selected by the editors of Mix as one of the Top-20 hits of
AES 2009, as reported online and in the November 2009 issue.

Mix Announces ‘Certified Hits’ of AES 2009

I’ve attached the "Mix Certified Hit" logo for use in promoting this
product on your website, brochures, etc.

Congratulations on creating a hit product. We look forward to discovering
more of these from you in the months and years to come.

Keep ’em coming!

I heard these at AES

Just my 2 cents. I listened to these at the show and thought they
were very good. Everyone had focals at their booth this year and
they were really hurting my left ear when cranked. The HG was
very smooth and the program material I brought with me sounded
very much like I mixed it in the studio. And, the design is brilliant.
Why no one thought of this sooner???My only problem is that I
am hot to buy some new speakers soon and I will have to wait
a few months to get a pair of these....and Harvey, I have no
problem with you keeping your initials in the name of the
product, In my opinion you have earned that little perk over your
long career
rock on dudes

Maybe if they make the initials lowercase, and the number smaller....

Well, the final decision on the size and appearance of the logo will be made by Alan and company.

harvey, those are brilliant! the idea behind 'em is like one of those things that are right in front of everyone's moses, but don't see. i bet you've had a lot of "DOH!" moments, because the ideas are so simple that you wonder WHY no one's ever thought of them until now; & those are usually the best & most USABLE ideas. mate, you are too kool for colour tv!
