Well, with the "impermanence" of software, it is a bit frightening. I ended up buying a Waves bundle instead of an Abbey Roads bundle just because I feel fairly good about the chances of Waves still existing in 10 years. It stinks, actually, because we always need more choice and competition in the high-end plugin market, in my opinion.

Frankly I'm surprised that no one else has attempted a plugin version of this unit yet.

Yeah, and I'm probably going to, before the month is over. Been demoing the Trident for the past week or so, and I'm generally really liking it. Just trying to decide if I can really afford to buy a new plug right now...

Aaargh...Dom, if it's not too much to ask - any way you could at least give us a hint of a timeline for a proper (i.e. on website) announcement of the impending release?

I remember signing a NDA for this last year, but have yet to receive anything to test

(With much respect) - how are you so sure than anything is actually forthcoming?

Especially with the recent turmoil at EMI/Abbey Road?

Exactly. I don't know if anyone is sure. It's now been 7 weeks since I first emailed them, and I've tried other means to contact them on 4 or 5 other occasions, but no response. It's sad, really. I have really liked their plugs when I've demoed them, but I just don't feel good about throwing my money their way right now until we hear something more definite.

I'm confused.

I don't understand what you guys are talking about "throwing money their way."

There is no product.

Sorry, I meant in regards to all the other plugins they already make. I've been trying to get any kind of response from them at all regarding their transition to 64-bit, and I can't seem to get any kind of return email at all.

That's all I meant. I'd like to buy all their plugs, since I've really, really liked the demos, but since I can't get any kind of response from Abbey Road at all, I don't feel super comfortable buying anything from them right now. Hopefully it's just a bump in the road, of course, but I'm just uncomfortable with spending my money there right now.

Softube developed the Brilliance Pack. You could try emailing them for insight on the Abbey Road Plug-ins situation.

Also, on the AR Plug-ins website, they imply involvement with NI's Abbey Road Drums. At this point I have no idea who exactly "Abbey Road Plug-ins" are, and whether they simply take credit for any Abbey Road audio product regardless of involvement, but if they indeed had a hand in developing AR Drums, then I'd think they're still alive and swimming.

So the Abbey Road guys are lurking...sigh. I'm sure Softube are under a NDA as well, so prolly not much point asking them either.

Looks like it - a year late and no news is as dead as it gets. And no other new plugs from them either I expect.

Right, it does seem like something's still going on there--they even posted EM magazine's recent award for the Mastering Pack, so somebody's doing web updates, at the very least. And that shows something--there is some kind of continued "outward face" for the company.

But for me, in terms of sinking my cash into a company--any company--where I can't get a response from Customer Service after 7 weeks is just a bit frightening. We can all say whatever we want about Waves, but they've always responded to my emails in very short order.

Regarding Abbey Road, like I say, hopefully it's just a minor blip. And if it proves to be only that, I will happily buy up all their plugs, because I really like how they sound. It's just that other plugin makers are currently getting my money while I watch and wait on Abbey Road.

If so, that's too bad. Rumor has it that Waves may be working on one. It's nice to have choice and competition. I guess I'm most concerned about my Brilliance Pack, though.

I believe it took them over a year on the Brilliance Pack, so who knows? And as was mentioned, they do have the alliance with NI.

Good points... I'm just saying don't count them out, but I wouldn't hold my breath, either.
