This is what was in the Softube newsletter:

"We have been involved in a secret project the last four years. All we can say about it right now is that, come NAMM, a big (make that huge!) name in the industry will release a product that Softube has co-developed together with that company."

softube rocks but at the same time I always wonder about comments like this. The direct translation could be "an intern in our company worked mondays and thursdays 10 - 3 on this project for 4 years".

The Brilliance Pack took forever as well, didn't it?
I hope this comes to fruition, because I find every single EMI plug-in super cool and useful.

Do we even know for sure that Softube were the ones that were working on the RS124 (which is the EMI modded Altec compressor) for Abbey Road?

It's kind of weird. Abbey Road Plugins have remained static for over a year now - the RS124 screenshot was the last thing they released! Then last week Abbey Road announces a deal with Native Instruments for software instruments - the first of which will be released in January (presumably at NAMM). The NI thing looks to cover similar ground as the Propellerheads Abbey Road Keyboards Refill did - but opening it to a wider non-Reason using customer base, and expanding the sampled instruments beyond keyboards (at least to drums, based on their video).

I think that Abbey Road would've announced a new plugin (or suite of plugins) alongside the NI announcement if they had one. They would say something like, "In addition to the software instruments we are developing with Native Instruments, Abbey Road Plugins will also be announcing new additions to our processing line. The combination of these projects will truly make the 'Abbey Road sound' accessible to everyone."

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it all ties together and Softube have spent four years developing "The Abbey Road Experience" plugins which will include the REDD desks, the TG desks, Studer tape saturation, RS124, Fairchild, an ADT plugin, an IR reverb with impulses of all the studios and echo chambers, all in a box that comes with an iLok with the Abbey Road logo (which will also have a little "lab coat" sleeve it can go in when not in use). Maybe instead of plugins, it'll be a an Abbey Road DAW, along the lines of Harrison's Mixbus.

The idea of Abbey Road is more then the actual product Ive experienced.

Is their stuff good? I didn't like the comp nor the brilliance pack. I also heard the whole mastering deal for a 100.00 bucks a song wasn't a success.

Is there a real passion behind the products or is it just a name they are running with and awesome GUI's which are cool.

Well, it seems that lot of people here like their equalizers bundle, being the Mastering Pack or especially the Brilliance Pack.

I remember reading that positive opinions.

But I may agree about the compressor, not much love.

In my opinion Brilliance Pack is just that: brilliant!

If particular plugins are modeled after specific hardware, then designing a GUI that is as true to the original object should be as important as attempting to have it sound just like the original. EMI plugins are certainly designed well, but that is not their sole strength.

Yes, would be cool to know, but these days it's sounding as VAPORWARE...

Come on, from their official words, it was supposed to be released at least more than 6 months ago.

Well I re-read the original post, and for something which was supposed to be available "early 2009", we're almost 1 year late (for the moment).

Maybe there are some more plugins coming together for a new Abbey Road compressors bundle, who knows...

I tried to email them about 3 times in 6 months, with no reply at all, not even "we're still working on it".

That's not fair from them as THEY announced it. I mean, it takes 10 seconds to reply something like that so...

Dom, any insider info as you seem to know more about it than the rest of us here ?

Maybe they were on the verge of releasing it last year when someone pointed out the missing control. Oops - back to the drawing board! Or perhaps they are doing what they did with the TG comp and having two versions - the vintage unit, and a more modern updated version.

Until this thing ever sees the light of day, we won't know. NI & Abbey Road are supposed to announce their first collaboration "instrument" by the end of the month. Perhaps they'll drop the RS124 plug on us around the same time.

Abbey Road Drums are already up on Abbeyroadplugins.com and on NI's site.

aw, crap!

Wonder if the impending Abbey Road sale includes the plug-in division? The politics leading up to this might explain the long wait...

Revenue from plug-ins can't be very much.

True no doubt, especially compared to overall revenues. But we have it from Dom&Roland that it's not vaporware, and I am assuming (wrongly maybe) that means it's in beta...just hope it makes it to market!

I'm with you, man.

I have no idea exactly who is running Abbey Road's digital department.

The image is a little diffuse.

Partnering with NI, getting stuff "ghostwritten" by Softube, etc. It's a little unclear who exactly is running Abbey Road's digital division. I mean, is there a dedicated staff dedicated to products like this? Dunno.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for this plug-in.

I will be very happy if it materializes.

It's not at all clear to me, either. I've emailed them 4 times over the past 3 weeks through various channels of support, and I haven't heard anything back from them at all.
