I use the AD Sparrow/Autuer mic pre as my front end for PT but I would love to see a DAC from them.

Something is up with Digi if you can use this new FM box they built instead of using Digi hardware to run Protools.

Is it HD only? If you can run a LE system with this box, it will be a the ultimate game changer!

Just curious. I'm so confused on your comment. How does this directly relate to PT? Am I missing something...

Thanks.

Was this at AES? If so did anyone get any pictures?

This box looks freakin' awesome. I really dig the multiple output options. I was thinking of picking up the folcrom but this is making me have second thoughts!

Yeah it does, but are the guts are the same? There is no mention of transformer coupled inputs and outputs with the SM PM8.

It is the SM Pro PM8 re-badged and of course internally modified. Black Lion used to mod SM Pro products and then reached some kind of agreement with SM Pro to "develope/mod" their products officially, so they stopped offering the mod service SM Pro products. So much time has passed I thought they trashed those plans. In any event I'm very interested in this summing unit and if the price is right, which I am sure it is .......

I think it was the PR8(E?) 8 channel micpre that was offered as a mod service .... i think ....

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the used to mod SM Pro stuff. Makes sense about it being a mod of the original SM Pro product. Whatever works to save money and make a better product.

I'd love to see the guts of this box, and/or some tech spec comparisons between the original and new BLA version. Looks great! I like the idea of being able to run passive/transformer-less out/transformer coupled out. Are their transformer inputs as well?

The SM Pro version streets at about $400.00 I'm thinking (hoping) maybe the
BLA version will be in the $600-$700 at the most.

under a 1000.00 huh? Have to think about that one, not a bad price if it works well.

I'm going to test out that new Harrison Mix Bus this weekend, if it works for what I'm looking for them for 79.00 that will be the ticket for me. so far people are really digging the sound, who knows though, I find out. Can't pass it up though for 79.00.

Did they tell you 8 and 16 channel converters were on the plate next? That sounds super cool.

I'm very interested in the summing box... This guys are doing a great job!

FWIW, I asked BLA in august about multi ADDA converters and they replied that it would be amazing, but they hadn't any plans yet.

Cheers

I'm not sure if this is a great price. It will be around 1700.00 for the 16 channel version since you will need two of them. At that price I would rather get the the

Speck X Sum Line Mixer which is a 32 x 4 Line Mixer:

Speck Electronics -X.Sum Line Mixer

I can also use an external mic pre to color my sound.

So I would have like to see the Black Lion cost around 600-700$ cause you would def need 2 of them for 16 input mixing.

Maybe they took the SM-Pro one and modded it.

Edit: I just saw others have already mentioned this.

Anyone tried the PM8 modded box? Any good?

Man I hope so! I'm looking around for something to expand my setup for a
full 16 I/O. I can't seem to find anything comparable to the pre's in my modded
Project Mix. Sign me up for an 8 channel unit!

all i can say is that their mkII is a seriously great clock for relatively little $ (not that this 2nd point really matters so much for what yer getting in return, sonically), & if this summing box sounds anywhere near as good, that's a stoopitly good price. i don't really see where the competition is for it, not with 8 ch's of tranny+/tranny- i/o's. it's simplicity could actually work in it's favour, & in a big way. with this config, they REALLY only have to make sure it sounds good, & it's a wrap for small studio/daw musos.
