I would say that the compression "action" is fairly transparent. The unit does have a sound. I have directly compared it to my Tube Tech CL-2A on a lead vocal. The OPT1A had more upper mid range presence. The Tube Tech was "softer" sounding to me. Hope this helps.

thank you I appreciate that. I think I will stick with my Buzz Essence for now. I'm not sure I like the idea of the compression affecting the upper midrange. I've got enough of that coming from my mic and my voice

FYI---

I used the OPT1A on an electric guitar tonight in a mix. I love the way things just "sit" in the mix when using these (and their Vac Rac cousins). An OPT1A and an API 560 on the electric was making me happy tonight!!!

These things look great on paper, hi pass filter, link switch, stepped controls, SPA690 discrete amp blocks. Has anyone else toyed with this thing? Please, we would love to hear about it. Cheers

Yes, please can we hear more? Interested to hear whether others have experienced the upper mids being more present?

I've got to take care of some things financially, so my OPT1As are for sale. Check out my thread in the classifieds if interested. Peace.
