| Been using the pre-release version of the OPT1A for about 5 months now, I got a pair and let me just say that they are fantastic. Mine don't have the filter though. I use them on everything, and they are very cool on the drum bus or master section.... I'm loving them with no stereo link. |

Do you ever use one to track vocals or acoustic guitar? | |

| I have used them extensively on vocals, but not on acoustic guitar. With vocals they are very easy to use and have always been in my vocal chain since the first day of use. They sound great, in extreme settings and just a light pinch.... I haven't had the pleasure of trying a Vac Rac, but they can hold their own against most any optical piece I've used on vocals. The make-up gain is super cool and clean, might even add something to the tone that I like. So yes, I like it vocals... if you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer them. |

I'm mostly interested in it for tracking... so all you've got on that is most welcomed.

| Gear addict | I recently got a pair of the OPT1A comps after trying the VC500s and not loving them. I have used some original Vac Rac limiters pretty extensively at a client's studio on pretty much everything but drums (its primarily a writing studio so lots of vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, basses, synths, etc). After using the OPT1As for a little bit, I think that the action/response of the compression sounds pretty spot on to me. When using the OPT1As, I immediately got a smile on my face when using it on a vocal. With the Vac Racs and in a similar way with the OPT1A, the leveling is not super apparent. So, you can get a good amount of gain reduction without hearing tons of artifacts. Now about the general sound of the OPT1A... I feel that the original Vac Rac limiters are a bit thicker in the low-mids, and the OPT1A feels a little tighter in the low mids and lows. The OPT1A also feels a litlle more upper mid forward. I love the way both the Vac Rac limiters and the OPT1As just make a vocal "sit" in the mix. I'm looking forward to hearing the OPT1As next to the Vac Racs soon. I will report back with results at some point.

| how are people liking this unit for vocal tracking? how clean is it when tracking at conservative compression levels? from drummerboy's opinion it seems relatively transparent if you don't smash, would just like to hear some more opinions. thinking it might pair up nicely with a Juggernaut in my Revolver. the Pendulum also looks great, but is about $300 more.

| Gear addict | I demoed the Pendulums for a few days before I got the OPT1As. The Pendulum was more transparent and more versatile (variable atack/release/ratio). But I loved the sound of the OPT1As. |
