NO , only RMX in the Spectrasonic range.

Im running Logic9 on snow leopard in 32 bit mode , with this configuration RMX 1.9 also runs in 32 bit mode.

But what DAW did they use to test the 64-bit version?
There's no 64-bit DAW on the OSX platform yet.

Spectrasonic have the following quote on their website

"• Mac 64 bit support
This version includes 64 bit support on the Mac. At the moment, the only 64 bit host on the Mac is AULab 2.0.1, but expect more shortly"

I hope Spectrasonic have been liaising with the logic team and this is perhaps a hint of logic 64 ?

Its a shame that Apple missed the opportunity to update Logic to 64 bit when they introduced L9.
And after reading that the chief developer G.Lengeling said i an interview that there will never be a 64 bit version of Logic i stopped hoping.

In that case its about time we had some proper answers from Apple , as theres no point me investing my future any further in a DAW that will only let me access 4GB of memory when modern plugins are getting Hungrier & Hungrier

I got the info from Jay Asher. Maybe he can chime in and give us more details or a link to the original interview.
I would really hate to switch DAWs after investing the last 15 years into learning my way around Logic.

According to wikipedia LP8 was mainly coca but included some carbon libraries, I don't know if this true but given the Logic team would have had forewarning that coca was the future for 64bit applications it would have been very shortsighted to do LP8 in carbon.

For those who expected a LP-64bit before or at the release of Snow Leopard, that would have been a very risky option for Apple. I used to beta test for Emagic in the late 90s so I know a little bit about software testing approaches. This is pure speculation but I doubt they would have bothered to test LP9 64bit with their external beta testers until SL was locked-off.

On another note I think there is a very strong likelihood that we should still be able to run 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit LP9 using Interprocess Communication.

A quote from Apples own 64bit porting guide, page 45 (http://developer.apple.com/mac/libra...bitPorting.pdf)

"For example, audio software manufacturers may find it easier to drive adoption of 64-bit versions of their application if they also support existing 32-bit audio unit plug-ins.

Once again I should stress I have no inside information but I am quitely confident we will see a 64bit version of LP9 which we will be able to run 32bit AU plugs using IPC. Just give the hardworking beta testing team a couple of months of testing and I reckon by December I will be able to make use of all that RAM in my MacPro :-)

I think LP9 64-bit for OSX-SL will be released in the near future via an update.

It makes absolutely no sense to keep LP9 as a 32-bit application. This would be completely out of line with all other competing DAWs, and OSX-SL focus of offering a 64-bit Kernel, and other performance boosting features (GCD, Open CL).

The fact that RMX 1.9 is now 64-bit should say a lot ! LP9-64-bit should not be too far away

It wasn't an interview. He told me this personally.

Gerhard: Jay, why do you want this?

Jay: So we can access more RAM for our software instrument libraries.

Gerhard: There are other ways to accomplish this. 64 bit creates as many problems as it solves.

Now this was three years ago. He may have changed his mind since then.

Regarding Mac hosts - Vienna Ensemble Pro has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Mac. (And you can run both on the same computer.)

Also it can be run on the desktop of the main DAW computer so it could be a good place to run Spectrasonics plugs. VSL has stated that Spectrasonics definitely works with VE Pro.

Incidentally Jay Asher recently showed me that under the Options button in EXS that there is a Virtual Memory setting that allows Logic to optimize External Memory for AU instances (or to optimize it for more EXS instances). This seems like a good way to run more virtual instruments with Logic itself.
