I think the XILS 3 may just be my favourite new soft synth. Very few soft synth's express the 'soul' of analog hardware. The Korg stuff, Imposcar and TimeWarp are my current go to synths (these definitely have that analog magic) but on the evidence of your soundbanks and a recent session demoing the XILS 3, I can see me purchasing this in the next few weeks.

It's just that $300 in the current marketplace seems just a tad steep for a new player with no guarantee's of future support (they're a very small company). $200 seems a far fairer price in comparison to the other leading players in the marketplace.

Exactly the way I feel about XILS 3 . Timewarp 2600 & ImpOSCar have up until now been the 2 synths that have that 'soul' factor . For me XILS 3 goes that step further , hard to quantify it , but it is noticeably more 'soulful' . To be honest I've never felt an emotional connection to a piece of software up until now . And with the new features coming in V1.1 , it looks like becoming a more expressive and versatile instrument .

U know there was a Summer promotion where the price was $220 , u might email Xils-lab and ask em for an extension . U never know.....

The though had crossed my mind! But what with the 1.1 release forthcoming I'm holding out in hope that they'll run an intro offer. Great sounding soundbank by the way, really shows off the potential of the XILS 3.

Thanks Jon .

I kinda doubt they'll run an intro offer on an update....

Your sounds always make me want to buy the synth.

In this respect, I hate you. I really do.

This synth is intriguing --- and your sounds, as per usual, are great --- but it's expensive and there's a non-iLok dongle needed.

The dongle thing, in particular, is a curious choice for security method for a soft-synth! I mean, don't people realize you're going to play these instruments live w/ your macbook? Dongles don't make sense on stage. Ugh.

That's an unfortunate choice. I recommend that the company consider lowering the price a little bit and consider moving to the kind of copy protection schemes used by Fabfilter, Spectrasonics, FXpansion, Audio Damage, Sonic Charge, etc., i.e. user codes and a little bit of user trust. The dongle thing has got to go. I don't even have a spare USB slot most of the time.

I enjoy supporting small, creative companies like this, so I want to get behind them. I'm all about supporting independent business.

Thanks Chad

Dont't quote me on this , but I think XILS 3 is gonna have the option of the soft syncrosoft protection , so u won't need the extra dongle .

Regarding the price , yeah it is relatively expensive , its back to its regular price of $300 after the summer promotional price of $220 , so it is at the top end of the softsynth market . I dont however work for Xils-lab so maybe u could take it up with Xavier at Xils-lab . He might be open to it .

Understood. I will contact him.

The synth itself is clearly a thing of wonder, I only mean to be supportive.

Could you please do a set for Circle and Twin2?

Or are you going to make me buy a new instrument every time, you evil bastard?

Its my new mission , to make you purchase synths u dont really need .

I did buy Twin2 when that Mac Promo deal was on , sold it after 2 days though , I just didn't love it enough to want to spend a month programming sounds for it .

Circle is an interesting synth , I've just downloaded the demo , I'll have a look at it next week . Very cool GUI , sounds pretty ok to judging from the audio demos .

Do u own either MMV 2 ? I think thats gonna be next on the list , but don't hold me to that

Ultimately, I think you have better taste than I do. So I will follow you anywhere and haven't regretted it yet.

You're an artist. I get it.

So if Twin2 didn't excite you, I can't force you to do it. You clearly work by inspiration and have refined sensibilities. So I respect that.

Same with Circle: if you're not into it, don't do it. You should continue to keep your standards high. This will, in the end, only serve your growing rep.

Here's me admitting my ignorance: I have no idea what MMV 2 is.

Its just that I've bought and sold so many pieces of hardware / software , that I've finally figured out what resonates most strongly with me . It only took 20 years

I dont think Im gonna do Circle either , its interesting , but I've been sonically spoilt with XILS 3 & Timewarp 2600 , Circle just doesnt rock my world .
I've just tried the demo of Largo , its the next one . Bizarre synth , but I like it .

I should have been clearer , MMV is Arturia's Moog Modular V . Amazingly capable synth .

Thanks for your words Chad .

I bought XILS 3 on the strength of your recommendation and your sound set. The developer Xavier seems like a really nice person. I like supporting people like this.

I am excited to receive it!

Please do another XILS 3 set!

Sequel! Sequel! Sequel!

Hey Chad ,

How are u liking XILS 3 ?

You're right , Xavier is a really cool guy , he used to work for Arturia as I recently found out , while looking through the Moog Modular's manual .

Sequel to follow in the not too distant future , once I've finished battling with Largo

U 'only' have to spend $99 to upgrade to the full version from the 'No Brainer' version . You're right , its one softsynth that makes u feel like a kid in a candy store again
