WoW, Nice!

Now if only I could plug it to my iPhone to record! (and a bit more gain...)

Nice product. I like the concept. I like the built-in microphone, for those moments when the idea is too hot to wait for setting something up. You just may get the "keeper" acoustic guitar on one of those takes, you never know.

Apogee are doing some thinking about The Musician Of The Future. I'm impressed. In the 21st century, you have to stay limber and open-minded and adaptable.

That being said, I love my Prism Orpheus and can't imagine being happier.

We plead for four, they give us One. I'd be lying if I said I didn't really, really want this to throw in the laptop bag.

awesome one

I agree four would be cool, I'm a long time user of the duet and love it. I also have the zoom h4 as an aggregate device giving me four inputs. I like how the One has that handy size and feel like the h4. I'm glad to see usb on this device too, makes the new macbook people happy. Still a big fan of firewire, but for a 2 channel interface--and that run of macbooks without firewire: I believe Apogee made a great decision making this product.

Way to go Apogee!

and...249.00 that is a great price point.

I wish One and Duet offered Windows support, they'd be perfect for my needs. IDK why so many of these smaller interfaces only offer 48-ish sampling rates, meanwhile NI's Guitar Rig Mobile offers 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 192 kHz range... wonder how a microphone would work with it (would whatever they do to preamp the guitar signal be enough for a mic?)...

Wow, very innovative! Let's just hope they are focusing on the sound quality rather than the looks. Otherwise we might end up with a bunch of 'I want it" interfaces a-la iPod, but sounds weak and breaks down easy.

Yeah it may not quite be an "Mbox killer" as I joked about earlier, but I can see this
being an attractive interface option for someone first getting into Logic.
$450 for Logic Express and a One interface. If it were me, this would be a no brainer.

IF(and thats a big IF) the next version of Logic kicks ass as people are hoping
it could open up more competition for the Mbox PT LE market.

In fact I'm already planning on getting one of these when they hit the shelves.
It's a lot more friendlier than my Mbox and sexier than an Mbox Mini.
Of course it goes without saying that the sound quality will crush any Mbox interface.

This looks great! I might grab one to replace my handy LS10..for capturing quick ideas...

But I do wish that Apogee would make one with 4....It's pretty simple..just get the duet and multiply it by 2..and there you go...

FW400, maybe, but Firewire 800 will be around for the foreseeable future.

USB is probably fine for single channel, 44.1 song sketching. NO WAY I would EVER consider a USB interface for a paid session, though.

Why not... Check this out if you think USB is not up to the task!

RME: Fireface UC

14 samples of latency quick enough for you?

That's not even technically possible.. To use ADAT channels for 192kHz, it uses SMUX4, which turn the normal 8 bus 48k ADAT into a 2 bus 192k interface.
Therefore, using all channels at once, (which it can do over USB2) it will provided 12 channels of I/O at 192kHz.

I wonder if it may need two USB ports on some computers (?)
The standard for USB is up to 100mA of power without negotiation. If the software negotiates, it can get up to 1A on some computers. 100mA should be far more than a device like this is likely to need. In order to step up the voltage it most likely uses a DC-DC converter. Phantom power should never need more than 10mA, usually less. I would expect the logic circuitry to draw several times as much current as the audio circuitry here.

I can't see anything wrong with the concept here. The question is whether this device outperforms items with similar functionality / price from the likes of Tascam or M-Audio etc.

It's not about what looks good on paper but real world performance and MOST important : reliability. It's long been known that USB just doesn't cut it for real-time transfer*. I suspect this (RME) product is a knee-jerk response to Apple cutting Firewire out of their previous round of MacBooks.

(*Apogee had the good sense to limit their new USB interface to a single channel, limited at 44 or 48 khz rate)

Apogee ONE - release date?

Hi, Anyone had a chance to get hold of the Apogee ONE and give it a good thrashing yet? Any independent reviews available? They're up on Ebay but the suppliers can"t give exact shipping dates.

For me it looks ideal as I have a 9 month old Macbook with no firewire and want to make high quality single track recordings for guitar bass and voice.

Apart from sound quality my main concern is latency anyone have figures?

Currently using Garageband but soon to get Logic.

Cheers

When are they going to make something between the Duet and Ensemble? I am looking for something in exactly that range to replace my Duet and will have to go to another company as Ensemble is overkill for me. Sort it out Apogee, the money is there for the taking!

ps : one content - it does look like a nice lil box.

It appears shipments are delayed by at least a month. Not a good sign.

I own a Duet and to me this sounds like a Duet-killer! Am I missing something from the features?

Duet killer? Yeah sure, everybody would rather have only one channel instead of 2! I'm surprised they don't charge MORE for the ONE since it is sooo much better than the Duet!

Picked one of these up the other day. I have to say that this is one noisy device. Plugged into a pair of powered speakers I get a high pitch whine that is quite noticeable. on top of that, any disk activity results in odd noises out of the unit as well. I returned the first one thinking that I had a defective unit, second one is exactly the same. Furthermore, it doesn't play at all if any other audio interface is plugged in as well (in this case a FF400), the unit creates even more noise that way! I'm not expecting pristine at this price range but yikes, I have an Mbox mini that is dead quiet next to this. Definitely not ready for prime time...

Upon further investigation, here's where the problem lies. The unit is incredibly noisy if any device is plugged into any firewire port at the same time. I mean any device; drive/interface/etc...
This on both a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro.

dirtboy, any updates on this? Like a lot of people, I run all my drives/interfaces over FW so this is a serious concern...
