FYI ... Basically the CPU is dead. Yes, that processor you see advertised everywhere from Intel. Its run out of steam. The fact is that it no longer makes anything run faster.
i'm sorry, this was a year ago, but that was one of the stupidest comments I had ever read

A wise decision. Even if the (paid) music industry is still going downhill more or less big time, making music is still a better idea than working for a dictator.

Dave can afford to do music and not get paid.
I'm quite happy not trying to make a living producing music anymore.

You think he already saved enough in his years at Digi and Apple?

I'm quite happy to do just that. Well, I don't exactly produce music, I'm a live player 95% of my time.

With the state of things (lack of talent, education and market) I would say this attitude will be forced on many.

In his gear list, ProTools is before Logic, and that's not alphabetical.

The industry is changing fast, especially in Post ! The media management of Avid and the advanced trimming appears to still have an advance on FCP for the complex long form stuff.

But these days, due to tight budgets, Post shops need to quickly do a little of EVERYTHING.

Final Cut Studio with a good video card and the right drives there trump Avid as the price performance for a system that can do everything can’t be beat.

As a manufacturer of Audio systems for Post ... We see the move to FCP worlwide as being nothing less than massive.

These days (money wise) less is more. It's definitely tough out there for all of us ! and this definitely includes AVID/Digidesign.

All the best,

Uncle Joe

.
The Film Post-production company I worked for in 1999-2001 had just invested greatly in Silicon Graphics and Avid Media Illusion. I still remember that fateful Wednesday when I suddenly was on the receiving end about 100 (shared) emails from furious Avid-users, angry about Avid's overnight decision to drop Media Illusion, Elastic Reality & Marquee. One particular emailer had spent the money but had not actually received the software yet! We were lucky, we'd had a couple of years at it, but it still spelt death for our company.

I don't think it was the first nor the last time that Avid suddenly "dropped" a piece of software. I only hope this mentality doesn't transfer itself to Apple in any way?
