Thread Starter | MJE-K47 Mod for MXL V69ME
Just finished my R&D work to "re-voice" the MXL V69ME microphone. The stock V69ME mic uses a K67-type capsule with rising HF response that drives a flat response circuit. In my opinion, this always sounded too bright with a top end divorced from the midrange. In fact, the K67-type capsule was never intended to be followed by a flat response circuit (back story from the late microphone engineer Stephen Paul). I'm now dropping in my new MJE-K47S capsule (Michael Joly Editions, K47-type, Single sided) to remove the searing high end and shift the timbre balance to a classic "47" curve. The mod also includes: upgrade to a NOS GE 5 Star 6072 tube hand-selected for low noise and low microphonics, Evidence Audio LYRIC HG capsule-to-tube wiring, signature single layer headbasket for greater openness and reduced standing wave coloration and replacement of all polarized electrolytic capacitors. The MJE-K47S mod for the MXL V69ME is available now. |
