No, if they were taking tips from Microsoft, the video would conclude with a patronizing voice informing the clueless customers that the "new" product they were cooing over was actually the current version of Reason that had been available for about 2 years.

Ha!

Yes, and you left out the best part. If they were taking tips from Microsoft, it still wouldn't work.

Looks like they're making their own version of Garageband. Um, ok. If that's the case, they'd have been better off buying Reaper and releasing it as a Propellerheads product. They wouldn't even have to change the name. Hahahah.

I don't understand why the peoples heads in the MAC video looked like they were going to explode. It doesn't look that crazy, in fact it looks dated and a bit late.

It natively opens Reason files…if you have Reason installed.
64-bit mix engine.
SSL 9000k modelded EQ and compression on every audio channel and an SSL modeled bus comp as well.
Line 6 guitar and bass amp models.
A simple Sound Canvas/Proteus tone generator.
Very intuitive track comping.
The best time-stretching I’ve ever seen. I saw a 40-track audio project (full band, vocals, etc.) time stretched from 130 bpm to 180 bpm to 68 bmp by simply typing in a new tempo value without any artifacting.
The Reason rack convention is maintained, but you can now have as many racks as you’d like from left to right. You can do all the cabling, just as in Reason.
No third-party plugins are supported, but it can be ReWired. As with Reason, Record is a “closed system” but that allows the code to be very CPU efficient. It will run on any machine that can run Reason, which is just about any lame computer.
No time code support, no video support.
The price is $249, $149 for registered Reason owners.
Release date: 9/9/9

I cant see a time stretch that great without any artifacts. All time stretching i've ever heard will always have some sort of phasing on the decay or mess with the transient of drums at that severe of settings. If there is no artifacts at all then thats amazing and I'm really looking forward to hearing it.

Too right..! I loved Reason since v1, but sometimes having to fire up a separate DAW & muck about rewiring individual channels etc can break the creative flow.

If this thing basicly integrates the reason instruments into a simple DAW, it will be great for composition.

Propellerhead always deliver something new and exciting. Cant wait to see these features in further depth.

I love their simplistic design...many people consider their products to be Toys. At least when it comes to Reason.... Yet countless hits/records have been made with it. They give you a very easy to use environment, with incredible options for getting your ideas down quickly..and that's the key.

I'm stoked to say the least! I think this is going to be great.

I definitely agree that there has yet to be great time stretch algo without artifacting. At least in extreme stretch conditions. Many developers have gotten close...(Ableton/Digi/Etc), but I think the original intention was for their to be less extreme time/tempo manipulation. Taking a sample/loop/entire song from its original time/tempo to 20% +/- is usually ok.... anything over tends to sound grainy and thinned out.

Slightly off topic....but while I'm on the topic of time stretching:
For Sound Design.. one of the best apps I've found for accurate and incredible time stretching has been 'Paul Stretch'...its a free app available via Source Forge. I've been able to manipulate audio in a way that none of the big league programs have come close to without severely damaging/artifacting the original source. You can do extreme stretches (not joking....can stretch a sound to playback completely within 30+ days) and the artificating is very very minimal. The GUI is an eyesore and takes you back in time to the windows 3.1 days... but it makes up for it in what it can do.

Ive been able to create some incredible ambiences/drones with it....and its even saved me when a portion of a cinematic we were doing was extended....one of the sound effects we created needed to fit the length of the change and we tried PT/Ableton with no luck.... Loaded up paul stretch...dialed in the exact length needed. Export...Perfect!

Paul Stretch PC
Paul Stretch OSX port

I wouldn't doubt if Props make another breakthrough in timestretch tech. Its just a matter of time.

Very interesting. I'm bummed that it doesn't support 3rd party plug-ins, but if it runs as stable as Reason, I'll be stoked.

Definitely looking forward to September.

They'll have to include some 3rd party support. It's not even worth thinking about otherwise.
