did you pay for it already?
if not it's just "in development" - it happens

You didn't pay for DNA. You paid for Melodyne Plug-in and/or Studio with the promise that eventually you'd get DNA for free.

It's true that nobody "bought" DNA, but it IS BS to be selling the product (Melodyne plug) on the premise that you will get DNA (free).......when in fact it looks like they aren't likely to get it working. And they HAVE been saying "it's almost ready" for a loooong time.

That being said, the Melodyne plug is really good and it is worth the money even without DNA.

How does it "look like they aren't likely to get it working"?

They demoed it at the trade shows. They didn't just show a Quicktime movie of it in action, they actually showed it working in front of people.

I wish it was out now too but it's a pretty revolutionary product and if it takes a bit more time to get it FULLY functional and stable, then I (and I bet others) are willing to wait a lil' longer.

I'm sure they're finetuning it so that it runs well once it's out. I think the demos were carefully chosen audio that would work well with the algorithms but they probably need to code more for wider applications.... It does seem very complex....

We heart at the MusikMesse they had to redo a lot of the algorithms again, which took a lot of time. It didn't work as good as expected after the original presentation last year. Too fast too furious ... I guess...

i say they should take their time and deliver a product of high quality and stability

they should never give timelines though!

A lesson I learned a long time ago is to always buy software and hardware only on what you get right now. Promises of future versions for free or at a discount is cool, but ask yourself that if that didn't happen, is what you've got now still a good deal for the price.

I got burned on a Roland S-50 in 1987 and I hold a grudge!!

What is going to be interesting is the technology that comes along after it.
DNA is based on FFT which cannot be easily protected.

I wouldn't not be surprised to see Digi, Apple, Steinberg looking to build this technology into their sequencers at some point.

Yeah. No kidding. If they put that and an equivalent of Beat Detective in, I'd be a happy fellow.

maybe it's very clever marketing on celemony's part.

maybe they needed financing for the development of the plugin and they knew that people would buy the plugin then to get the DNA version for free when it's released. it's a good deal to be honest as i got it for a discount and they got development cash :-)

Lots of rumours - I don't give a whole lot of credence to nonspecific website rumours (an insider told me - who? what kind of an insider? how do they know?). DNA will be fun, but enjoying the existing Melodyne Studio as it is, and I'd rather that they release a stable product than the alternative...

Shitty.... but meh, I paid for Melodyne 2 and got what I paid for. It would have been a cool lil' product tho that's for sure.

I watched that video a long time ago and thought it was the guy working on a real project, not pre-fabricated. That in itself is a bit of a letdown.

Well, I for one won't be that disappointed if it turns out to be an unfulfillable promise. I can sleep at night now without the nightmares of "but can you just tune that 1 note in that chord in the 1st part of the 1st measure of the bridge - my ring finger frets harder than the others" or "the major/minor 9th chord in the 36th measure sounds like the 3rd note in the chord is just a little bit flat - can we fix that? But I really nailed the other notes"

+1 , that and the flood of modified samples that will create a new blurred zone in legal rights . Just to see where we've come in "recall" since artists think it's very easy .

Giving the sound quality of the regular Meolodyne (especially the plugin which i find useless for anything except really clean vocals without any esses) I find it hard to believe that this will ever sound any good. Could possibly work for sketcup and demos, hardly in everyday production. What I'm looking for is a pitch shifter that really can handle rougher vocals without the tracking going mad. Waves Tune usually recognize this best, but it sounds really bad as well.
