The best coffee available at the show was to be had at the Behringer booth.

Of course it was a copy of something originally made in Italy!

Great pics! Kinda bummed that I didn't go this year...

Schnitzels and the messe are always a great recipe for GAS.

Yeah good hang..

My participation at these things changed since I closed my studio (summer 2006) to run GS full time but here is a scatter-brained list of what I can remember of new products and other stuff..

SSL have made a mix engine - its NOT a DAW but an engine that can be used for 'superior digital summing' in the background of other DAW platforms.. (took a while for me to understand it)

Radial Engineering's Perter Janis (a man who seems to need little sleep) says he will be cranking out no less than SIXTEEN different 500 series products this year..

Lots of exciting stuff to come from Prism this year..

I met will Uli Behringer (thanks to GS member Mike for the hook up) and he has agreed in principle (details need to get ironed out) to do a guest Q & A here later this year! Should be interesting eh?!!

Presonus have developed a new DAW - an LE version of it will ship with hardware soon. The full versions is $3-400 (I forget) I have to say its the most elegant hardware manufacturer's DAW I have seen in a long time... cool features..

I spent most of my time in hall 5.1

It was great to hang out with Gearslutz and familiar faces, sorry if I was short of time or little spaced out (I arrived at the show with a headache and got back to discover I had a virus or something.. better now) so I wasn't 100% on full form..

The Frankfurt Musik Messe gets a black mark from me for lack of air conditioning But on a plus side they has the best rest rooms of any trade show I have been to... The Movenpick ice cream stands everywhere were great!

The Al.So 24 input 500 series summing device looked very exciting.

It was good to see the Smart AV Tango up close.

SPL have a bunch of new products..

UAD

I was in awe of the scale of the show, next time I will use ALL of the 4 days, as 2 is not enough to see everything and everybody.

digital summing "superior" to other DAW platforms? right...

why? do they really expect to take viable market share from the existing players in the DAW market? pointless.

Here are some of mine, that were not posted before. One is the USB version of the RME Fireface 400, the other one is a tube eq that was shown at the Golden Age Audio booth (their compressor is on top of the eq).

Absolutely agreed! The temperature and the air quality were really bad. Anyway, it was good seeing you again. For some reason I missed the Beerslutz party. Looking forward to seeing you and many other Gearslutz in Munich!

Here are my pics if anyone likes to see them:

Picasa Web Albums - Jop - Musikmesse Fr...

As you can see I actually walked from the Messe to the Commerzbank Tower because the restaurant is very nice there. I went with my dad with whom I visited Frankfurt in 2002 for the first time. It's such a beautiful city.

It was fun this year! Not as busy
I was at the synth stand with Herman (sherman filterbank) and his new box is GREAT. Restyler stereo filter made with Rodec. I helped him make some videos today for youtube.
PRS amps sounded GREAT. Really!
Laney L5T amp is probably more feasible though...
Brauner Mics. I want one.
The RME USB interface is on my list to go with my new MacBook
COTK Modular synth is beautiful sounding and REALLY well built.

Why are you so sceptical?... People buy the best product if sold at a reasonable price. I find the price reasonable. as for the "technical features", lets see:

I was there and let me tell you I´m very impressed.
The good things:
Plugin delay compensation (Pro Tools LE and M-Powered still don´t have it!)
it is extremely fast, and easy to use. The drag n´drop feature makes life really easy... you have several menus at the rigth side (like Logic) and you can drag anything to a track (a plugin, a plugin preset, a loop, a channel strip preset, etc) and it will be loaded immediately.

You have K-Metering and 64bit engine. (Pro Tools?)

Compatible with AU/VST(any version) plugins and Rewire.

You have a couple of simple handy plugins like a small loop-sampler-player-thing. You just drag your wave into it, and you can immediately start playing the loop, or any slice of it in your keyboard.

You can automate every single knob and assign it to an hardware controler in a second, it is so simple...

It opens Cubase projects (not really amazing)

many more to describe...

Things to introduce or improve:
Hardware inserts, preferably with ADC á la PT HD . (which is in development, they say)
Transient recognition (like "Tab to trasient" in PT)
Elastic audio and elastic pitch (like PT)
and Comp tracks (like in PT or Logic)
a couple of more virtual instruments and a real sampler
(Didn´t checked the batch fades features if it has any)

There´s a lot to do, but for a first version it is already amazing. I think PT and Logic should look at it, closely, and see how they can fill their gaps.

I´m a PT LE user and I was going to change to Logic with Symphony... I already have Apogee converters... But if Presonus introduces Hardware inserts with ADC that works with Apogee converters (or equivalents) and some kind of transient recognition, believe me I´ll go Presonus. It is extremely easy to use and I´m convinced that they will develop their DAW faster than the guys from Logic and Digidesign... but maybe I´m just fool

Sorry, I didn't. The main system was really well built though. I have heard issues with ordering from them though (like waiting MONTHS for stuff after payment) but I got the impression that they are straight up but not so great at the business side.
I don't doubt their products though.
