Cakewalk Releases Free Updates for SONAR 8 and SONAR V-Studio 700 Customers
— Updates add Classic Sounds, New Features, and Improved Performance —

Boston, MA (March 3rd, 2009) — Cakewalk, the world's leading developer of powerful and easy to use products for music creation and recording, today announces availability of free updates for SONAR 8 Producer, SONAR 8 Studio, and SONAR V-Studio 700. The updates are now available as free downloads for registered SONAR 8 and SONAR V-Studio 700 customers at www.cakewalk.com/SONAR83 and SONAR V-Studio 700 1.1 Update, respectively.

The SONAR 8.3 update adds classic Roland sample content for Dimension Pro and Dimension LE, drum kits for Session Drummer 2, along with new usability enhancements and engine optimizations. The SONAR 8.3 update also addresses performance issues reported by customers after the initial release of SONAR 8.

Don't count on an answer from Cakewalk. They only have time for spam, these days. I think the neighborhood kids have taken over the company. Just call the 800 sales line, and see how long you wait on hold (with rave music in your ear)..., and that's the sales line !! Don't even try to call the non-toll-free tech support line, unless you got the money to burn on phone bills, and really like long futility endurance contests. They suck, and it bumms me out, because I've got 10 years and several grand invested in them. It's like a bad divorce.

I hear ya.
I have a bug report email that has gone unaswered for 3 weeks now. Finally 8.3.1 has made my sytem somewhat stable, but that is 5 months after the release!
The company seems intent on pushing me to buy a new DAW software package.
I have been a user since the DOS/ midi only days. Pretty sad.

Yes, I am totally bummed about Sonar/Cakewalk too. I have been using Sonar since version 1 or 2 -- started in 2000. I last purchased 7 in a rush as I had to use it on Vista. It hasn't been as stable and 8 came out 2 weeks later. I probably spent 8 hours on the phone figuring out my order status back when I got 7. It was like talking to verizon. not good.

Now I am in a position where I am putting together a proper studio (been in a home studio and on location recorder for the most part, and using commercial studios for bigger projects). I am looking to invest in a system that works together seamlessly, with a sound quality upgrade and good workflow.

Thought it would be sonar, after working with Pro Tools LE and Logic. I am having second thoughts though as the interface and improvements are really not what I am interested in -- lots of techno synths, drum sampling, loopers, etc. --- things i have little or no use for.

Then the v-700 comes out and I think it could be just the thing and I could streamline the views to be what I want. And they bolt on a bunch of stuff I don't want or need -- like the hardware synth (what?!), and preamps. And they tout their 'smart' 8 bank faders. And they won't unbundle and don't offer a fader extender. Totally lame, and missed a major opportunity to offer something competitive (and maybe better!) than pro tools, in not something unique. Seamless integration with a controller with 16-24 faders and EQ channel strip, plug-in control, with or withour the converters. I would so be there.

Sad. Sorry for the rant. Like someone else said, will be a bad divorce.

I've been with them since Pro Audio 9, and am currently at Sonar 6.2.1. I had read people bitching on the forums, and thought they were just isolated incidences... Then, I tried to update to Sonar 8, and experienced the Cakewalk Customer Flogging Machine (CCFM) myself.
At this point, I feel morally bound to do my part to ensure that their bad business practices do not prosper. So, I have promised myself that they will not get another cent of my money, even if they make a software that simulates talent.
The Waves company (who also made my sh## list) has not received another cent from me since they WUP'd me from challenge response to ILOK against my wishes. dfegad
I know the loss of my petty cash is next to meaningless to these companies, but I won't support that crap, just so I know I didn't feed the monster anymore, once I found out it was evil.
Don't even try to voice a complaint on the Cakewalk forum (no matter how legitimate), you will immediately be buried with a bunch of demeaning responses that surely come from cloaked Cakewalk employees, or mindless sycophant Cake-droids.

Yeah, those cakewalk forums are totally B-czar. You have cakewalk employees telling you to change your workflow to accommodate their products (you should see the responses about asking for more fader banks -- you know, a customer telling a company about something THEY WOULD BUY), then you have weirdly cultish members/responses that seem like they would fall on their sword for sonar or cakewalk. Hey I like(d) sonar for ages and told people about how great I thought it was too, but come on. I guess a weird form of self-validation and/or blind support. But come on people, it is software and hardware for recording music, not solving world peace.

Rolands ownership will be the downfall of Cakewalk and Sonar IMO
