I tried using Live 6 and 7 as a full DAW, rather than just for sequencing, but I could just never get around the absence of true mono tracks and limited metering of Live compared to Logic or PT. That Akai interface looks pretty cool, though! It seems like I just paid for Live 7 not too long ago. hopefully the upgrade path is easy on the wallet if I decide to do that.

This looks very cool indeed, I'm tempted to upgrade my 6 finally (especially the Max integration).

Yeah, Ableton seems to update too fast (if that is possible), while other companies like Apple Logic go far too slow.

this new version looks great! Maybe it can pull me all the way away from Logic.

It looks amazing....i think the only thing that stops it being a full multitrack DAW replacement now, is the lack of 'edit groups' in the arrange window.

If it ever gets that....

Weird, I thought most people knew Live 8 was on the way, and that they were collaborating with cycling 74, but the Max for Live I wouldn't have guessed. I thought it would be an integrated pluggo suite. This is just as, if not more awesome, because it's so expandable.

The new Akai APC40 controller for Live is SICK!! Live is the most underrated DAW on the market. It does things that NO other program does. The new collaboration tool that they have is great as well. I cannot wait for this release.

I spent years avoiding this program because I didn't want to learn something new. I kick myself every day over that decision. They have movies on their site that are idiot-proof. They show you step by step how to use the program. That's how I learned to use it.

I don't think Logic and PT are going to be getting much use anymore.

yeah, until you need to comp a vocal or edit multitracked drums...

but sure, Live 8's looking pretty cool.

another thing... I could probably overlook the poor metering by using plugins, but that seems like an ass backward way to handle a minor problem... at least better meters could be an option for those that wanted it.

and the final straw for me, not making it a full DAW replacement, no mono channels. that means that every track needs stereo processing. for a Duende user, it is a bit of an annoyance to have to dedicate that much DSP when it is not really necessary.

...but I do agree, Live kicks butt at the things it was designed to do, just don't think that I could give up the primary DAW just yet.

ok, let's pretend that I did know that. how about actual numeric markings instead of counting 6dB increments manually. come on, who's with me

ok, this is room for improvement.
but do you know now when you pull the meters up then a numeric field pops up which shows the peaks? this is indeed not as bad and useless than when the meters are in its smallest mode.

Guys guys, please before you talk about what you think live doesn't do, please get to know it a little bit better yeah?

thats one of the beauties of it. when you think one thing you need doesnt show right in yer face, its still there somewhere. just RTFM.

in my opinion the two major features that were missing were cross fades in arrangement view and group channels (also that feat where u select several channels and by altering one's fader the others go along proportionally). Live 8 has it all besides all the new bells & whistles. so now I cannot see one single reason why it couldn't be anyone's main DAW,

my 2 cents of an euro.

Yes, there is an external audio effect plugin in 7.

Now my question... does Live 8 support the internal naming of external midi sound module patch names? Why pump up it's midi editing and leave external synth patch naming out? they are 95% of the way there, they have the plugin for an external instrument, they have the patch and bank selection... why no patch name import????

Oh yeah baby, there is! Since version 7.

regarding comping a vocal or wareva, there are many ways to do it in live, with the addition of all its glory of realtime elastic audio mangling and editing, plus clip envelopes where you can dive into the audio and non destructively and automatively (does that word even exist? lol) alter its pitch, pan, vol, fx, u name it, all at granular level if needed..Just like if each clip (either midi or audio) in the arrangement acts like a living organism on its own. I mean, what more can you ask for? It just doesn't make you a sandwich or brings you a hot chick into the studio..yet! But Im sure that with max for live someone will be making extensions for that as well!

Live 8 also introduces cycle recording so that comes to the combing party as well.

Read my lips: Ableton Live 8 = full featured DAW.

Seriously, Im not a radicalist on these things, and I know other DAWs have their worth as well, been there done that with them all, BUT, Ableton Live as grown now, in version 8, to a premiere league DAW, and much beyond that, due to the Max for Live and web-Collaboration service extensions.

that said, I gotta take a dfegad

Still no multi-monitoring? Damn! That would be so cool to have the session-view on one screen (with the Mixer) and the arrangement-view on the other screen. Such an important feature is missing...for me it would be much more important than another EQ-effect or a limiter-plugin.

Man, dead right!

I mean if they had put at least 12 or 16 100mm flying faders on that thing and doubled the right section of track and device control knobs on the left as well, that would be my dream surface right there!

Cmon Akai! its just copy paste and new faders! I would gladly pay more for that, and bet loads of others here would do too!

Novation are you there? you can do this as well!

just press tab man! its not that dramatic. I mean you still can only look at one monitor at a time anyway

2 eyes = 2 monitors ... you just have to watch this way:

Its not a professional solution to switch every time between the mixer-view and the arrangement-view via tab-button. I want a dual-monitoring-solution!
