Impressive, particularly the screen - and that they even have a DVD drive

I have the feeling that it's the Beat Inc. from UltimateSoundBank that has been announced in Winter NAMM 2007...

Because they develop together with MOTU, I have this feeling...

I wondered that when I saw the screen, but it's actually a beautiful piece of hardware - of course, as you say, the mac/windows in the corner could suggest it's software, because hardware is usually a given it will work on these platforms without announcing it.

Could be weird to have pads on screen with a plug, but could be a nice way to drag drop and map samples to your existing hardware pads.

it looks really like software only. otherwise the ad would feature at least a hardware specific fact.

the M in BPM is supposed to stand for MACHINE an i swear i read another scan out of emusician that said it was a hardware host with vst capabilities but i could be wrong...

It's clear from the verbiage of the ad posted above as well as the BPM page on MOTU's website that this is a virtual instrument...sure, the "M" stands for "machine", but it's a virtual machine, just like their Ethno and Symphonic Instruments aren't really instruments...

Kinda looks like an updated version of FXpansion's GURU.

Yeah FXPansion could have owned the market with virtual drum machines but they slept too long. The current incarnation of GURU doesn't do it for me.

Besides Native Instruments, which are kings of unreliable software, I know of no other company building software as unstable as FxPansion.

I own two of their products which I have stopped using as they are doing NOTHING but compromising a reliable DAW.

1 is GURU and 2 is VST>RTAS

Oh I have a PT Bundled version of their BFD drums but come on, if that is a replacement for a drummer then my a cassette deck is as capable of multitrack recording as Protools HD.
Besides that that software too is unreliable.

Forgot to mention the most important -

This MOTU thing looks interesting indeed. Specially because I can load my Ethno and MSI directly into it. Thanks for the head up

I don't know about the limitations of the Pro Tools-specific version, but overall the most convincing "fake" drum tracks I've heard have been done with BFD...

It's awesome, plain and simple. I mean, just look at it...

Here is a little something I cooked up with BPM. It's a transcribed redux, let me know if you figure out what song it is.

Sample Track

Is anybody currently using this? If so, what are the pros and cons of using this software?

Did you notice any bugs in it?
What went smoothly with it?
And importantly... what are the specs of your computer you're using for it?

I use it as a plug in and send midi sequenced in other sequencers to it...so I can't speak about its internal sequencing... but I find it needs serious optimising.....especially with it effects which use a whole heap of power compared to lexicons, soundtoys etc which you expect to use more as they sound better.......
but the sound, especially of the samples are outstanding if you are into urban genres.
