I so love my iPhone. This stuff is the real deal! These apps are just going to get better and better.

BeatMaker and Noise.io topping the list!

Also Snatch as a remote control is pretty frickin amazing!

I picked up FourTrack yesterday and have spent a little time fooling around with it. So far it's been stable and very slick. Works just as advertised, and lets you transfer the audio to a computer as separate tracks.

I've been waiting for a multitrack recording app for the iPhone (that lets you save your songs) to capture song ideas without having to carry an extra device.

Nice!

Btw, I've tried this with my 2g Ipod Touch:

Griffin Technology: iTalk

Records mono files to 16 bit aiff from the mic input.
You can then transfer your files via wifi to your comp with the sync app.
And its all free! Sweet...

Very cool app. Pretty amazing that it actually works. Rumor has it that the next iphone software will allow for external inputs.

I hope so. This is the only reason I've not bought one (iTouch) yet. I don't know why they don't just put a usb socket on it.

Supposedly through the dock, and through the 1/8" in headphone/mic input. Should be interesting.

Picked this up as well....
2 things would make this incredibly useful:

1. Ability to use an external mic - most specifically to be able to attenuate the recording level.

2. Ability to import a wav/aiff or mp3 file to track along to. This would enable you to
bring in a reference mix, and then track random overdubs off site.

2b. Yeah, a metronome would be cool.

Couldn´t a simple "special" 4 pole minitele cable solve that?

How so?
If I read you correctly, no cable will help, as, I do not believe the OS will allow an external mic right now.

I was thinking along the lines that the headset has a mic and L,R earbuds all going to a 4-pole minitele jack. So most probably one is ground, two is L,R out and one is mic. So finding out which one is mic and ground and connect only them to a 4-pole minitele connector with a socket of choice in the other end. Don´t know if it´s possible just thinking out loud really.

Check out StudioApp

If you are at all interested in the 4 track application, you should def take a look at StudioApp. pretty similar... 4 vocal tracks.. but, it allows you to import your own songs into it! likewise, you can export finished songs to ur computer. ideal for workin ideas out during the day.

StudioApp - best kept secret

I don't think the da is really that bad. I don't think anyone would want to do serious tracking on their phone, but for a phone it doesn't sound half bad. This is my favorite 4 track app for the phone, given the ability to pan and punch in. Definitely the easiest way to demo new songs.
