Lexicon IONIX FW810S FWAudio Interface with dbx Mic Pre's and Dynamics

This is clearly the way things are going to go - fw interfaces with inbuilt hardware processing. Just don't tell them that Apple are going to drop firewire come next laptop revision...

Well, at least they finally made an interface that looks somewhat pro.

I bought their very 1st interface but could never get it going.

Can't tell how much of that is actually hardware processing given the datasheet and the write up. Pantheon isn't that much of a selling point imo. Software bundle seems more to me like it's directly going up against the Konnekt series though.

Good point about firewire... Jobs has really put folks (audio manufacturers/end users) in a bind with that.

I'd guess price would be the determining factor. I've seen the various Lexicon units fly out of the GC's I've been to (why I couldn't tell you). I'd think if they put some hardware reverb on it of some quality it'd be decent but unless the dbx stuff is killer and hardware I can't say it would be too exciting.

lol @ "looks pro".

Apart from large metal plates or springs, all artificial reverb is software. Even the 960L is just a plugin with a dedicated processor.

Wow, this looks nothing like Steinberg's new interface, with 8 mic pre's, integrated compressor and EQ's, reverb and....

Oh..actually it does...

I personally would buy a fw audio interface with built in plate reverb and spring hardware just for the hell of it. Can you imagine how big it would be? Amazing. Perhaps add a built-in sound recording booth + a bus powered sound engineer.

And that dedicated processor (the hardware in question) is precisely what would have made it attractive. Such as on the original card that Lexicon came out with years ago. Or how TC is doing it with their Fabrik plugs on the Konnekt series.

Last time I checked processors weren't software. Otherwise you'd have a real hard time installing something on a motherboard. "Gee this DVD won't jam into the cpu slot!"

Except from past experience, if Steinberg put their name to anything, chances are it will never *quite* work as advertised, & then simply be discontinued !
