Nebula for OSX? AU?

Anyone notice the banner ad here on GS from Acustica saying that Nebula is now on Mac? You can click on the "All Adverstisers" link to view it.

I've been wanting this in an AU format for a long time, so I hope this is the case!

Hi,
the mac osx VST version is actually in alpha-testing.

For betatesters who replied via email to my previous announcement: we'll contact you as soon as the beta-testing phase starts.
We should complete the AU version before the end of the year.
We'll go live 1-1-09 with the "nebula3 free" product with the following specifications:

a) VST and AU format
b) intel processor support only (ia32)
c) MAC OSX 10.4 or later
d) optional CUDA support (nvidia video card required, and MAC OSX 10.5.2 or later)
e) a very good free library. We planned free releases for expensive passive equalisers among other things. The new free library will substitute the actual library distributed for windows

I hope we'll respect those deadlines... at the moment everything is running fine.

Would that work with a 8600GTS? Does that add much latency?

It works with 8600M, I'm testing CUDA using a mac book pro. The picture coming from this topic comes from that notebook:

Acusticaudio Forums-viewtopic-Nebula on Mac Osx

but if you use cuda you are forced to load the "reverb" verson, so you'll have latency. Nebula has an huge quality, but you have the following drawbacks:

1) latency (for reverbs and time-varying patches)
2) it is cpu intensive (this is true especially for reverbs).

on the other side, dynamic-convolution or dynamic-volterra able to replicate reverbs doesn't exist, even in the hardware world
Latest equaliser libraries are very good and were captured using high-end converters (so even if you own hardware gear in your studio, but your ada chain is not so good it is possible that nebula sounds slighly better). And our user community is sampling and sampling.. they are sharing libraries using bittorrent, I think this is a smart solution, especially when you are looking quickly for a particular gear you can't find even for renting.

Sorry, I didn't understand the question
Mac book pro actually is based on nvidia 8600M
Mac pro are based on other cards, but you could request a configuration based on NVIDIA if you want

I was reading this thinking... I want to be one of those guys... those sampling and sampling guys!

But it's ok, you can make it up to us with a Slutz group buy!

Cheers

Great! This is one of the many reasons that I am really happy with AcousticAudio as a costumer thumbsup

I also have a question: I was searching through the AcousticAudio's own forum to see what are the best modes for Freq and Time sliders in MAST section if I want to use the CUDA. Should they both set to 14? I am still unclear about the difference between 12, 13 and 14 modes as they are all CUDA. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peace

12 is the slower method, and is supported in all cuda platforms (it's available for cuda 1.0). For MAC OSX for example we'll support mode 12 (other modes have a crash issue but we are trying to fix it).

13 is faster than 12
14 is faster than 13

If you don't have exclamation points the selected mode is safe and is running.

This is the same for FFTW if you install the DLL downloaded from FFTW.org. In that case mode 8 is faster. In nebula3 pro we'll implement an automatic diagnostic for selecting the best algorithm (it was already implemented, but for TIMED item only).

For CUDA: you should install
1) the proper NVIDIA driver. This is true for Windows, in Mac OSX the step is not applicable.
2) the proper CUDA toolkit (our installer could simply copy the official DLL, but we think it's better if you install the latest version available from their site).
3) Our Cuda bridge, which is a DLL located in your windows/system32 folder.

Thanks for the clarfication. I already have the latest driver, toolkit and bridge. So seting both to 14 seems to be my best bet. y the way where should I see the exclamation marks in case there are any?

Cheers

just before the "14". It should be a blinking exclamation point. If you don't see any it means that the cudabridge was loaded successfully and found a cuda device. Take a reverb with a long tail. You should see a difference in your task manager when ou select mode 11 or mode 14

we are speaking about GPU computing. Nebula is very CPU processor intensive (this is true especially for reverbs), so we implemeted the executing of the main algorithm on the GPU (video card). If you have a video card from NVIDIA (a recent card) you could save CPU cycles.

Yeah, I know it´s heavy... I´ve used it on a PC... and I´ve heard about this "using video card" thing but never really knew what was going on.

I have a GeForce 7200... does it make any good?

Will this CUDA thing work on the mac?

yes, it will work on macs, I said some posts above. Well, a 7200 is not supported.
In this page

you'll find an updated list of supported devices

Will this work with non-mac video cards on the Mac version? On my Mac, I'm not using the 8600 "Mac edition" that's $200 more than the regular, I'm just using a regular old 8600GTS with ninject to make it work...

Either way, excited about the Mac release!

hi dude - how difficult is it to get the ninject working? And which era of Mac Pro are you using?
