Cool Massive SSL Duende plug-in sale

Just got the email shot from SSL...

All optional plug-ins less than half price for one week only...!

Just added Drumstrip to my own collection, I've got all the others already.

I LOVE the bus comp, but it's not useful on all genres of music. If you do film underscore, classical, that sort of thing it's nigh on useless, IMO. But for rock/pop, hiphop, soul, basically anything modern/rhythmic etc it's a fantastic mix glue. Mmmmm, delicious glue...

Have you try demo?
You should have 10 hours if you have Duende(mini?) already....
I strongly recommend you should demo them in advance.

By the way... I will buy both if I don't have them.
(I use Duende classic that's why I already have buss comp though)
Those plugs are really different.

Drumstrip has great mic comp,
Buss comp is great glue tool.
Each plug has very different concept, I think.

Also.... X-Comp is really great too!!

Is it possiblyto run the x comp as a mono plug?
Do any one use the x comp and how good is it?

Thanks

it was a rhetorical question. :] i've demo'd them both for about 8hrs, ideally would want both but ended up buying the drumstrip.

If I had to choose between having EITHER the Drumstrip or the Buscomp I'd take the Buscomp. I find it useful on 95% of what I do. It's just a sound I like and one which I associate with the sound of 'records'.

And the mic-comp is available as a free (native running) plug-in from the SSL website, so you can get that in any case.

But not for Intel Mac...

Oh well. Got the drumstrip now anyway, so I shall no longer be angry about not having the LMC.

I still believe in them, and I think they're working hard. Anytime I have a crash or anything unusual (it does happen, but not regularly) I email them my logs (although I never work past 48k, so I'm not experiencing that 3rd DSP issue).. hopefully we're not far off from a release which works nearly 100% on all platforms. I've been pretty happy with mine anyway, the issues are pretty few in number and I mostly know how to avoid them.

Anyway, I'd vote for X-EQ. It's an Algorithmix design. But X-Comp is also great, one of the best ITB dynamics processors I've ever heard.

Wonder if there'll be some kind of product refresh at AES and this is intended to help get rid of the last of the existing stock...?

Good deal anyway, as they've said elsewhere here the policy is that you only have to buy the plug-in once and they'll give you a license for additional Duendes, so even if you get them now and a Duende 2 or whatever comes out and you buy it you'll still have the add-ons. Not a bad deal either way!

- trying to steal some attention back from UAD?

- to make up for the driver problems?

- and only until Oct. 1st? That's just a week...

edit: I mentioned this in another thread, but the post was lost in the last outage. There was a mention and a small screenshot of a new Duende "Vocalstrip" plug-in in the last Electronic Musician - not out or on sale with the others, though.

And AES starts Oct 2nd... hmmmmmm...

And we do know already that there'll be at least one new Duende plug-in (Vocal Strip) ... maybe some new hardware to go with?

Funny, I guess I was adding the note about the Vocalstrip while you were posting.

It seems like they would run the sale through AES - oh, well... I don't have a Duende and probably won't in a week, either.

I almost got a mini on sale and with a rebate - would have been about $500. So, for less than $1700, I'd have a fully expanded mini with all the plug-ins - wow!

- don't have that kind of money right now, though. And anytime something's on sale like this, I look at that price as it's true value.

So, I'm unlikely buy new at the regular price in the future. You people that already have Duendes should take advantage of this!

I'm guessing with the new UAD2 out now that they have a SSL Duende 2 coming and they probably want to sell off those plugins so they can make room for the next stuff coming out. Seems logical.

Hi Lukas,

I'd recommend looking at the X-comp over the buscomp. Personally I wasn't too impressed with the buscomp and don't use it at all any more, but the X-Comp is as some others have said the best virtual compressor I've ever worked with. Just my 2 cents...

We had received a lot of feedback from Duende users over the last couple of years that they felt the plug-ins were too expensive for them to make a purchase. While we feel that they represented excellent value for money, especially when compared to similar quality offerings from companies such as Waves and Sonnox, we were interested to see what effect a lower price would have.

As such, we decided to run this one week promotion to gauge the reaction, and take this information into our ongoing strategy.

We will be showing Vocalstrip at the AES show and shipping from just after the show closes. And for all you rumour-mongers out there, no new Duende hardware at AES. There will be some other hardware launched though....

Rampant speculation is what we do best!
