Sonnox have agreed another trial period, and I have Xennon demo, I'm just trying to find out if there is an Elephant demo...then I'll test the 3 and report back.

You could just buy the Elephant

I did, just out of curiosity and the cool price. I won't replace Sonnox, but I might use it on some tracks that "require" it.

I just bought Elephant and I LOVE it!!! The masters punch preset rules!!!

I don't have Sonnox. But it's WAY better than vintage warmer and Logics various limiters. I like it better than the Massey limiter as well. Especially since I don't have to fly tracks into Pro Tools to use it. (I mix in Logic.)

I have a mastering guy that I've used for years so it's not a priority for me, but Elephant gets me way closer to his sound than the others. It's great for sending bands home with rough mixes.

Hi!

I'm about to order it... Is it really as good, as transparent as Elephant 2? I really hesitate but the price is so attractive...

Just downloaded this, gonna try it out. I really like Ozone but it's a little, uhm, clinical (?) to me. Still use it as an effect (and quite a lot) but not sold on Master Buss yet.

And yea, I like the Stillwell stuff as well! I'm finding Major Tom on just about everywhere now. Gonna have to pony up for it soon.

Ok I've manage a quick rough demo of Elephant 3, Xennon, Sonnox & Precision Limiter. I compared them on full mixes that I wan't to convert to MP3 and put on Myspace etc. So DIY mastering.

Of all I have to say that Precision Limiter tended to work and sound best on my majority of my material (Hip Hop, so lots of transients). To my ears it was the least colored and kept the transients in tact at reasonable boosts. I generally set the out puts on all to -0.3db, and the input gain up around 10-12.4 db (or what still sounded good), til I had around 3-4 db of gain. Medium to Slow attack and Medium to Fast release.

The Sonnox sounds the most polished to me (radio pop ready) but I didn't like the way it handled the transients (maybe I need not time with).

Xennon seemed to color the mid lows (fatten em up) so I can see it being usefull for some matrial. But lacked as much clarity as I would like.

Elephant although good in the transparent dept (so more versatile) it doesn't stand up to the Sonnox and Precision Limiter.

The Precision Limiter just sounds like all you've done is turn up the volume, i.e. the same but more in ya face and louder (little to no atifacts). I already had that so think I'll stick with it and then maybe grab the Sonnox or Xennon for some alternative flavor.

Also on each I messed with the extra features and probaly like th Sonnox enhance the most.

You should add Flux Pure Limiter to your list Its on par with the Sonnox.

Sonnox, Flux Pure and Elephant3 (EL Uni mode) are for me on the top of the list of transparent limiters.

I agree with PSP Xenon and the missing transparency and would also add Sonalksis MaxLimit/MultiLimit to that list
