This is correct. There was no update to the dynamics for the G-Series channel strip. The 2151 VCAs were introduced earlier on the E-Series because they were less noisy and exhibited greater gain stability. Channel fader VCAs were also changed on the E-Series around that time for what was in fact a module comprising of multiple 2151's in parallel, to reduce noise even further.

On the real console I found the black E-Eq the most desireable. Don´t like the G-EQ very much. The low and top end isn´t as nice.
You can dial in certain frequencies better with the G but the general sound isn´t that great IMO.

That doesn´t mean the G-EQs sound bad. The black E just has a slight edge over them.

Yes I agree. Even though I'm more of a musician than a engineer, I have heard the difference. The E series to me has more of "sheen" to it. I know a lot of engineers that also like the E better. Claiming that by comparison the G series sounds "like a blanket has been thrown over the mix".

But both the E & G series are very useful!

Although I haven't done side by side comparison, the G-Channel EQ sounded pretty much like the G EQ, I always wonder why virtually nobody talk about the G EQ in the original SSL bundle?

I don't think Waves was taking the trouble to find a G console and do the modelling again, to me it's like "oh I want the E-channel EQ replace with G EQ without loading 2 instances of plugins"...

I could be wrong, though...

I've had the SSL bundle since it's release and I must say I can't live without it in a mix. It's amazing. I think it's worth the price alone for the Bus Compressor. Is it worth the $200 to upgrade to version 6 and get the G Series stuff?

That may depend on how much you like the G EQ.
I love having both channels now.
If I was in your position, I'd buy a Musicians Bundle 2 for just under $200. That's renew your WUP and give you more bang for your $. If you don't need them or already have em, ...well...

A Cool SSL Trick

Ok, Don't think the G Series EQ is as nice as the E ? Ok Here is the trick that may change your mind.

On A Vocal Or BGV subgroup Try This.

1: On the G Channel set the low pass filter at about 7 or 8 K Yeah I know this will make the vox sound dull, just wait.

2: Press the X3 button, Now set the high mid Q to a tight setting.

3:Move the frequency dial on the high mid to about 17K.

4:Crank the gain on the high mid to about 10 DB!, now widen the Q control.

Pow, Instant Sheen. The inverse will work for things you want huge low end.
Good Luck

I like the G-Series desk's computer more, I think that was about it. Why are they putting this out?
