Softube Ships Metal Amp Room!

Hi all,

Let me introduce - Metal Amp Room!

Our new plug-in Metal Amp Room (RTAS/VST/AU) is available today at the Softube web shop ($179 excl. VAT).

Metal Amp Room was designed to bring you the most brutal, evil and aggressive sound that is possible to squeeze out of your DAW. It was co-developed with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and tailored to his needs. The continuous mic placement from Vintage Amp Room is back, but this time with twin mics with adjustable stereo panning. Get a huge stereo sound with complex adjustable phasing effects, a plain old one-mic-right-against-the-cone, or anything in between. The cabinets were measured in the In Flames studio (previously known as Studio Fredman) by Tue Madsen and Patrik Jensen.

Focusing on usability and sound quality, this is a plug-in that is proud not to include a gazillion amps, effects racks, patch cords, or a blow-dryer. Just two channels, two cabinets, two mics per cabinet, and a wickedly fast noise gate for palm mute galore. Every setting is a setting that will sound good, so it's almost impossible to get a useless sound. Metal Amp Room is a real workhorse, a plug-in that will handle all your metal needs without ever getting in your way.

A fully functional 10 day demo can be downloaded from Softube.

Best regards,
Torsten

Looks cool. I noticed the phase invert button, does that mean that one has to phase align the mics within the plugin? I've never used the plug so maybe I should try the demo before asking such a question. If you have fully variable mic position, it could be cool to have for Queens of the Stone Age, My Bloody Valentine type sounds, but it could also be a huge pain.

Clips should be up soon, I'm playing as fast as I can!

About the phase button: When you're close to the cabinet you will not have any phasing issues but as you move the mics further in the room phasing effects occur. By shift+clicking the mics they will move in the same way and will be phase aligned.

Just finished demoing it for about a half hour - it sounds sick! Especially with the left cabinet, I was able to get some great semi-clean/semi-distorted sounds. The distortion is super smooth, and much less harsh than most plug-ins. I will keep fiddling and post some more thoughts as I have them. First impressions - very good.

Is it possible to achieve some sounds with your new product for solo things?
Solo guitar samples would be deeply appreciated
Thank you!!!

Dimi, that's some mean licks on your myspace man! I actually just used MAR playing along with some old George Lynch songs and it sounds great, so solo's is not a problem...

It's going to take longer than I thought to get the sound clips up on our website, sorry guys! :( But if any of you who've tried it got some samples to post, it'd be cool to hear them!

Very Bump indeed. No iLok here (yet), but I was just about to build some Distortus Maximus-clones to get that Swedish higainsound during mixdown..

Okay guys! We did some sound examples today. Don't be hard on us, we are planning to add some sound examples played by a real guitar player instead of us (I'm a jazz double bass player and Torsten is a singer). But for now, you'll have to listen to our futile attempts.

Some of the clips (or perhaps most of them) should need some eq:ing, but we decided to put nothing on except Metal Amp Room...

Here they are: Metal Amp Room by Softube

Quick question:

does metal amp room have any form of presets>?

that would be a godsend.

Question

Is it possible to use the cab simulation on it's own and does anybody know if it's impulse response based or not?

It's better than most ampsims, but I'm still missing that instant 'Immortal'button... Must be the (upsampled) HFdistortion that chews up too many cpucycles..?

No, it's not impulse response (FIR) based. FIR, being a brute
force method, can sound extremely good in many cases but has its limitations. We have used a resonance modeling method instead,
which allows us to simulate the continuous mic placement but also has,
mathematically speaking, a better bass response for any given CPU
consumption.

Its not possible to use the cab simulation on its own, that's something we have to think about if there's a demand.
