Wow. As a producer, this will be an amazing tool and step forward. As a musician, I suppose it will lower the overall bar and talent level even lower.

Holy crap! I'm going to have to see this one to believe it. Let's see how it does on 12-string guitar. ;-)

mee-dee?

have I been pronouncing it wrong for the past 20 years or so??

seriously, this blows my mind - while I do worry what it'll do to the state of music in general, as has been commented, I do have infinite respect for this kind of innovation.

Well, that's just insane. How do they even do that?

You can tell from the guys beard that he was probably locked up in the lab for a very long time developing that technology.

Looks exciting...

Not to go too OT but - I really hope the bug that I and many other users had were fixed as well in plugin v2.0 - ie - after correcting a track, saving and closing project - then on re-open, the corrected track either has the timing WAY off or the pitch goes up and octave or two.

All the "workarounds" they suggested were ineffective.

I've been waiting for someone to figure out how to do this. So does this mean that all instruments are now going to have the life tuned out of them? Can it grab overtones from a poorly intonated instrument and fix them after the fact? Is this a good thing? I don't know, but I want it!

wow this is amazing...I have melodyne studio...but the direct note access looks sweet. I do a lot of experimental/indie/spacey recordings so it's cool to have something like this.

I'm not a fan for many reasons; here's just a few:

1. it dehumanizes a performance (perfect pitch, perfect timing, perfect sequence).

2. with extensive editing, it'll make horrible singers/musicians sound like a million bucks on an album (I can hear upset concert goers already!).

So could I take a recording of a string orchestra and completely manipulate it into something else? Can I repitch a vocal that was recorded live with a band? Can I invest now or is it too late?

And where can I learn more about this "meady" the narrator kept referring to?

Great, more twiddling to do in post...

Modern technology is amazing, no doubt, but then again, it also brought us nukes...

I can just hear the prima donna guitar virtuoso now... "WHAT? You changed around the notes in my perfect solo?! You're FIRED!

Is it real, or is it Melodyne?

I just wish the guy doing the voice over could pronounce the word MIDI properly.

Wow. Just wow. Is it April 1st? No? Well slap my ass and paint me purple... that's incredible. I'm sure it's not infallible, but if it works that well right now it's nearly a miracle of science.

Holy cow! Between ProTools' Elastic Audio and this Melodyne Direct Note Access, audio is really becoming completely plastic. I don't imagine I'll use either on a regular basis, but as a reliable emergency fix, this is gonna be amazing.

Already, I used Elastic Audio for a super time sensitive gig to speed up an acoustic-guitar, drum, electric bass and vocal (with 3 part harmony) from 107bpm to 140bpm with barely a hint of artifact. Sure, I would rather have re-recorded, but getting the track to the client on time was more important.

Amazing times for technology users like us!

If this actually works like I've only dreamt, I'll be blown away.

Yeah, for a good guitarist it would be dehumanizing to start messing with the notes they bend in and out of within chords, but for all these mediocre bands just wanting their song mixed and expecting you to make them sound great, it will become the standard. And as soon as a big-name mixing engineer uses it on a big album, everyone else will have to do it too. Well, not have to. We don't have to re-pitch vocals or time-align the kicks and bass hits either.... these are all tools and I like to have them. Some will use them for evil and some for good. Some just for technical purposes, others for creative purposes. I just don't look forward to pop music getting even more polished than it already is.

Also, most audiences probably already assume this technology is possible. People don't believe their ears any more than they believe their eyes at the movies. Intimate live performance will keep getting more important to more people, and hearing human flaws in recordings will get more appealing....well, it's always been appealing, but let's say it'll become more of a subliminal selling point.
