Thread Starter | Sonic Core AD/DA CONVERTER
Things looks very interesting and about right for my budget. I didn't even know this company made converters. Is anybody using their previous converter? Check out the link: Welcome to SONIC CORE |

Yes I worked with the first A16. Soundwise it was basically "OK" but definately not "good". A real bummer was the fan noise - the fan belt got worn out way too quickly - squeaking any time of the day (and night) By the way, I just saw them still selling my softsynth (that got infamous, since a preset sequence & sound were used as main theme of a movie that won an oscar for "best sound" )They have not payed me since 5 years If they really didn´t sell a single copy in a half decade - why is there still a picture on their welcome page?I guess the last money was sent before the bankrupt before the bankrupt when they where called "Creamware Datentechnik". So there has never been a direct contract with "Creamware without Datentechnik" or "Sonic Core" so they don´t care |

The newer A16 Ultra is dead quiet and the converters are very good, certainly tops in the price range and the Zlink interface with the Sonic Core Cards is very very stable and a breeze.

I have used them for years (Creamware A16 Ultra) and the only thing Sonic Core did after buying Creamware was repaint the box. There is no fan either, older units that was the case. You cannot beat this converter for the price, I have made plenty of records on them and they deliver quite nicely. War |

Warren, since you're selling them - have you tried out the new Aphex converters? I'm thinking about buying a couple... Thanks! Gregor |

When I first saw the link I had no idea it was the same as the Creamware A16. If that's the case, I also think it's good bang for the buck. I owned an A16 for a while but had just recently sold it off in sort of my own converter bake-sale, which included Apogee and RME units as well. Sold them all off to upgrade to Lynx.

I have the A16U, RME ADI-8 DS and a Presonus Digimax and the winner of these is the RME for its clean and open sound. The A16U has a bit of "a dark shade" over it I think, a colored sound, not as detailed as the RME. The Digimax also has a color of its own, a bit "hazy", but in this case I guess it's the preamps. The line inputs are great. I use them as the tools they are. Sometimes it's nice with a "hazy" sound.... I put the most important sounds through the RME. But, the preamps, microphones, finding the right sound and arrangements are more important I think. I could be fine with whatever conversion I guess. It's actually not that big issue today. ...But I would like to have one or two more RME's ![]() Hans

Thread Starter | More budget units with 16 outs.
The reason why I'm interested in this unit is because of the 16 d/a. I want to be summing externally. Other than this the only other solution would be an Apogee unit, and that wont be cheap!!! I'm tired of seeing units with 8 ad/da and 8 lightpipe i/o. I would like to see more units like these. I guess I will be picking one up. |

Are the converters of the A16 Ultra AKM? Could somebody open the unit to find out? I am planning to get one in the near future and would use a better quality external clock.

I'm sorry, I have not. Keep in mind they are quite limited in use and intended to be used with their digital snake. The AD converters run ONLY at 48k, period as well. War |

I sent email to Sonic Core support and they replied that the A16 Ultra converters are AKM. I will get a motu 828 mk3 after about 10 days or so and will use the 2 adat inputs for an A16 Ultra which will be my next purchase. I will first try to clock the A16 to the motu because the mk3 should have a new better clock. Later I may purchase the BLA micro clock. I need lots of analog inputs to connect my synthesizers to my DAW (logic 8). |

| Any Field Updates?
I'm bumping this thread up just to hear about any in-the-field experience made with the A16 Ultra. I'm looking for a 16-channel converter to replace my Terratec EWS 88 and I'm keen on any opinions concerning the Sonic Core system. Any good? I'm sure it'll be a move up from the Terratec converters, won't it? Anybody using it together with the Scope PCI card? Any other PCI card recommendations? Thanks in advance folks!
